Tropicalfete, Inc., a not-for-profit, multi-cultural arts organization, will host a Barnes & Noble reading program entitled “Authors Connecting,” on Saturday, June 2 to kick off Caribbean-American Heritage Month in June. Vincentian author Kamla Karina Millwood, who has created the Peach The Duck series, will be the featured guest.

Since 2011, Tropicalfete and Barnes & Noble has presented “Authors Connecting,” a program designed to emphasize the importance of literacy and how culture can influence education, as well as one’s world view. The event is targeted to interact with children and celebrate Caribbean culture. "We are extremely excited to be back at Barnes & Noble for another year,” said Ashley Murray, Tropicalfete’s Steel Pan Ensemble Director. “I can't think of a better way to begin our Caribbean Heritage Month celebrations than to share the joy of the steelpan and emphasize the importance of developing a love for reading with the future leaders of our community."

While Tropicalfete hosts many events each month, another major performance for the organization in June is the Caribbean Cultural Showcase on Sunday, June 24 at Von King Park – Almira Kennedy Coursey Amphitheatre in Brooklyn. This occasion allows artists to perform an array of talents including, but not limited to, singing, acting, dancing, spoken word and other visual arts. The organization will have its very own steelband performing, along with stilting unit and masqueraders. “Authors Connecting” will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Barnes & Noble (267 7th Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11215) from 12:00 – 1:00PM. In addition to Kamla Millwood, there will be readings featuring the history of the steelpan, a book preview of The Birth of the Steelpan, as well as performances by a couple of members from Tropicalfete’s Steel Pan Ensemble, Stilting Unit and masqueraders. You can further support the organization until the end of June by purchasing a book through Barnes & Noble: bn.com/bookfairsvand enter Bookfair ID 12353421 . A percentage of the proceeds goes to Tropicalfete, Inc. For more information about Tropicalfete, Inc, visit Tropicalfete.com . To see the upcoming events, visit Tropicalfete’s Facebook page.
