The StudioKat Designs Newsletter
ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

HELLO and Welcome!- September has been quite stressful in my household. Most of you do not know, that in addition to Jeter, I also have a very loyal canine pet named Jake. (I haven't mentioned him, because unlike Jeter, Jake has no interest in sewing.) He's a 16 1/2 year old Peek-a-poo, and I have spoiled him shamelessly. At this point Jake is basically deaf, has trouble negotiating stairs, sleeps most of the day and night, and tends to be rather short-tempered, snapping at most everyone except me.... hey wait a minute, if I didn't know better, I'd say you were describing my father-in-law! but I digress- Here's the problem; for some reason, Jake has taken to "marking" certain things in the house, like the new sofa. I've tried everything to correct this behavior, but he always gives me that blank look, indicating he has no clue why its a problem. So I've been struggling with making the best decision for Jake, who in most every other way, is quite healthy for his age. And then a good friend of mine, recommended we try doggie incontinence pants. I had no idea such things existed. Jake's been wearing them for the past few days, and they are wonderful! No more forgetful incidents or upsetting cleanups. Not surprisingly, he dislikes them, but I told him that he doesnt have to wear them outside, and we won't tell his friends in the neighborhood. On the other hand, I didn't make any promises about telling MY friends, so you can click HERE to sneek a peek. (Try to keep a straight face if you run into Jake!) I know eventually we'll have to make some hard decisions about my buddy, but it won't be today!

In between cleanups I've been working on a lot of things to show you, so let's get right to it!
Remember, for your convenience, all of the hotlinks are listed in order at the bottom of this letter, and as always, if you prefer, you can go to www.studiokatdesigns.com/oct06.htm to see the online version of the newsletter.

Feline Quote for October- A cat sleeps fat- yet walks thin.Unknown

New at StudioKat Designs-It's Here! The Cirque Sac!
My tenth pattern in the "Bags w/Panache" line was released a few days ago. It's call the Cirque Sac because of its sleek circular shape. Roomy and lightweight, it has two interior elasticized pockets, as well as a zippered interior pocket. The exterior sides are just perfect for embellishing, whether your favorite technique is applique, embroidery or pieced patchwork. The pattern retails for $10.00, but you can receive $1.00 off during the month of October, by typing SKD11 in the Coupon Code box at checkout on my website.

A Cool Place to Shop!- WillowCat Studio
I think you'll like this little shop a lot. It features some really unusual handmade dolls and critters, as well as some really cool handmade greeting cards. Of course MY favorite doll is the Cat Doll, but there are many others to shop amongst! Have fun!

New on my Website!-
A New Kat Trick-
I've worked up a new Kat trick (my fourth) for you, featuring the new Cirque Sac pattern. This trick can easily be applied to other designs, such as the Apropos Pack, and the Vervalise in particular. It's a fun technique, and there's always an element of surprise to the results. You may THINK you know how the final result will come out, but you never really know for sure until you're done. I think you'll love it! Kat Trick #4 is in .pdf format, and you'll need to download BOTH pages. Just click on the following 2 links; Kat Trick #4, page 1 and Kat Trick #4, page 2. If your connection is just too slow to handle this, or if you are squeamish about downloading stuff on the internet, just "snail mail" me a SASE, and I'll be glad to mail you a copy!

Laugh Lines- Joke of the Month
Hank took his pre-teen daughter to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench. After the game, he asked her how she like the experience.
"It was great," she said. "But I just can't understnad why they were killing each other over 25 cents!".
"What do you mean?" Hank asked.
"Well, I saw them flip a coin, and one team got it," she explained. "And then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was, 'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!' Hel-lllo! It's only 25 cents!"

Talk to Me- Cats with their Personal Stereos
If you like cats with attitude, then click here to check out this cute little clip, made by a person with WAY too much time on their hands, and sent to me by alert reader, Erica Lineberry of Raleigh, NC. Erica's into patchwork clothing with custom appliques and you can check out her site HERE, at Eclectic Threads Clothing.Com. By the way, my favorites are the "Metal-Cats". What's yours?

Surf HERE for FUN!- Hurricane Tracking
Hurricane season continues through the end of October, and the National Hurricane Center forecasts a busy North Atlantic year. Keep on top of these powerful storms with the help of this powerful site! It includes tropical storm and hurricane updates, tracking maps, interactive flash maps, computer models and public advisories, You can also check out fasinating hurricane history and see a list of 2006 storm names!

Listen UP!- Your Taste in Tunes
Like some help discovering new music you'll love? Well if you don't live in a town with a progressive radio station that tries to promote new artists like I do, then Pandora promises to help you do just that! It was created by the Music Genome Project, a group that analyzes music by breaking it down into its fundamental elements like "repetitive melodic phrasing" and subtle use of vocal harmony". You simply snter the name of one of your favorite songs and the site scans a century of popular and obscure recordings to find songs with musical similarities to your choice. On an even better note, it's all FREE!

Monthly Trivia- October is such a cool month for trivia events, for example, did you know that October 2nd is Custodial Workers Day? A day set aside to honor those who clean up after us... hey wait a minute, shouldn't this be called, Mother's Day?!? And coming up this weekend is Frugal Fun Day, a day set aside each year to celebrate that having fun doesn't have to be costly. Try to do one thing for yourself, or your family that is free of cost, (or a least very inexpensive), like a concert, a hike, a play,a meal out, a picnic, an art gallery, or a day trip. FrugalFun.com is a really neat website and there's some interesting tipsheets, loading with lots of ideas for good clean, and cheap fun! I like the tipsheets for travelers & tourists. But the Things to do with your Kids tipsheet is a beauty as well!
October 2nd is the birthday of the legendary Groucho Marx, host of the television and radio show, "You Bet Your Life", although I am too young to remember either of these! He shares his day with fashion designer Donna Karan, born in Forest Hills, NY in 1948. And if today is YOUR birthday, thats just GREAT! Here's a big birthday hug from StudioKat Designs, and if today is not your birthday, you can celebrate the day anyway, by planning a nice outing (free of course!) with a friend, or maybe the person who cleans up after you. Doesn't that sound like fun? "You bet your life" it does!

Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember!
