Hi -

Circling back around to see if you might be able to preview John Paul White (one half of the Grammy-winning duo The Civil Wars) at the Granada Theater on 11/3 with Shovels & Rope?

White is performing in support of his new solo record The Hurting Kind, out now on Single Lock Records.

The album finds White exploring his own '60s Nashville "Countrypolitan" influences, collaborating with famed writers Whisperin' Bill Anderson and Bobby Braddock.

You can download the album here: http://www.sacksco.com/downloads/johnpaulwhite/johnpaulwhite_thehurtingkind.zip

And check out videos for "The Long Way Home" and "I Wish I Could Write You A Song."

The album also features a who's-who of Nashville musicians including Jon Radford (Leigh Nash, Odessa), Reed Watson, Pat Bergeson (Chet Atkins, Emmylou Harris), Jon Estes (Robyn Hitchcock, Kesha), David Hood (Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section) and Lillie Mae (Jack White), plus guest vocals from Lee Ann Womack and background vocals from Erin Rae and The Secret Sisters.

The new album is heavily influenced by the "Countrypolitan" Nashville scene of the '60s (Roy Orbison, Chet Atkins, et al) and finds White collaborating with classic 60s Nashville writers including Whisperin' Bill Anderson and Bobby BraddockThe Hurting Kind continues to see critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, NPR Music, Paste, The Boot, American Songwriter, Boing Boing and more; see what the press has said here: http://sacksco.com/notes/john_paul_white_quotesheet.pdf

White stayed close to his roots in writing/recording the album entirely at his own Sun Drop Sound studio in Florence, AL as well as the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL. He also co-produced the record with Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes)—co-owner of White's own Single Lock Records which just garnered its first Grammy nomination this year (Cedric Burnside).
