Psalm 105:1a Oh, give thanks to the Lord! ... Make known His deeds among the peoples!
GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD ... AND CALL UPON HIS NAME
We are halfway through "Thanksgiving Week." We have been urged to be thankful ... and we should give thanks to our Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier.
We have thanked the LORD for the physical/material blessings we enjoy.
We have thanked the LORD for His mercy and the spiritual/eternal blessings we have been both given and promised.
We will soon gather as Christians to sing praise and give thanks to our God.
But our praise and thanksgiving ought not only be offered up behind the closed doors of the church building or the home. We are urged by the Spirit of our God to make known His deeds among the peoples! "The peoples" in this verse aren't merely "our people," our acquaintances, friends and family. "The peoples" in this passage includes all the families on the face of the earth. So our praise and thanksgiving, our glorifying of God is not only to be a "corporate worship thing" but a message to be proclaimed to and heard by the world. So let us give thanks for our missionaries and pray that their work serves to make known His deeds among the peoples.
But this mission work is also done on this side of the big puddles. Let us take the opportunity to tell people that we are thankful that God sent His Son to die for us and His Spirit to make us His sons and daughters. Let our thanksgiving worship also include bearing witness at work and in the community to the source of all our material and spiritual blessings, the one true triune God. God grant us His grace that we use our mouths to give thanks individually and together offer up praise and thanksgiving to the LORD for all He has done!
