Next week our speaker is David Morton DPAGB, BPE5* who will be showing images from "My Past Year". David says of his talk:
Red Devils, dogs and mating frogs, it’s all included in my past photography year! I stepped back from competitive photography three years ago, I had just become bored of manufacturing images to please judges and the competitiveness between members never really helped me progress. Whilst I do complete a small amount of commercial photographic work each year, this is about the photography I do for myself.

As you will see from my talk, it’s highly varied, I really like to try different things, share behind the scenes information with you and enjoy passing on my skills to other photographers. But above all have a sense of humour and keep it fun! |
One rather startled looking canine! |

Print Competition - Round 2 |
Next Wednesday is the closing date of the 2nd Round of the Print Competition. The judge for this round is Vince Penticost AWPF. The rules are set out below:
The rules in brief (please refer to the handbook for a full exposition of the rules)
(A) For All Levels
- All prints must be mounted, the maximum size of mount being 50 cm x 40 cm.
- Label each print with one of the labels provided by the print competition secretary to show: your BPS membership number, level of entry (use Cl for Club, Int for Intermediate and Adv for Advanced) and title of print. Please cover any other identifying material. Position labels on the back in the bottom right hand corner.
- You may enter up to 3 prints.
- You may not enter an image used in any of this year’s bi-monthly Projected Image rounds for any of this year’s Print rounds.
(B) For Advanced Level only
- Your 3rd print must be in the subject or style category specified. For this round this is: Dereliction/Decay.
- If you submit a 'prescribed' category image you may also enter one or two images fitting the same subject or style for the 'open' category submissions. You may submit an 'Image 3' to the 'prescribed' category only, and nothing to the 'open' category, if you wish.

Well done to Andrew Wood who gained his Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society in October. This was awarded for a panel of 15 prints taken on location in Ethiopia between 2016 and 2018. Andrew's successful panel is shown below: |
Travel Photographer of the Year 2018 |
Well done to Sue O'Connell who, yet again, has done well in the Travel Photographer of the Year. This year Sue has had a grand total of 17 images shortlisted for an award, which is pretty good when you consider that she is up against professionals as well as amateurs. This bit of news was sent to me by Sue from the depths of Brazil, where she is busy, along with husband Peter, photographing jaguars, an example of which is shown on the right. |

This year's Photography Course came to an end this week, with the now traditional End of Course Competition. Many thanks must go to the small band of helpers who have run the course this year and also to those members who gave presentations. The winning image is shown below.

The next studio group will be for beginners in studio work and will be held in the morning of Saturday 24 November. This session is aimed at those new to studio work or unfamiliar with the studio equipment and will show how to correctly and safely set up the studio so that members will feel confident to book the studio for their own use if they wish. There will be a limit of 6 photographers for a 2hr session starting at 10.30am. A model will be booked and to cover this cost there will be a charge of between £10 and £15.
To sign up for this, please visit the doodle poll – click here. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and Nick will close the poll when enough photographers have signed up. It’s important that once you have signed up for the event that you add a comment to include your email address and mobile number, this will enable Nick to contact you to make final arrangements.

ITS NOT PARTICULARLY EASY FINDING "DATES FOR YOUR DIARY", SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF MEMBERS COULD LET ME KNOW OF ANY EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS OR PICTURE LOCATIONS THAT THEY THINK WOULD BE OF INTEREST. DATES AND WEB LINKS WOULD HELP.

Well done to Mike Martin who seems to go from strength to strength. This time he has won a Salon Award in the Solway Small Print Salon for his image called Temptation.
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
