Baby Boom... Christmas Party Date... Girl Guides... Make Lounge... Gadgets

Wrapped up greetings to you

We hope this newsletter finds you well, that the chilly weather is causing you to make good use of your knitted items and that you are ready for your bi-monthly dose of knitting news.

We had great news at the last few meetings that at least 3 of our members are expecting their first child next year. Congratulations to Grace, Yani and Rachel and anyone else who's up the duff but hasn't mentioned it yet! There must be something in the S&B London water.

In other news we have booked our Christmas party for TUESDAY 16TH DECEMBER at our popular new venue The Clarence. So get the date in your diaries, get knitting that Secret Santa pressy and keep your eye out for more news on the S&B Christmas party coming soon.

Our last few meetings have seen the lovely surprise of multiple pregnancies at The National Theatre where you all turned out in force for a good knit and natter. Conversation turned to baby knits, potty training and labour as we heard how Grace's baby was going to just 'rock up' on the day. Good luck with that one.

At EV we ate to our hearts content as the cold set into London town. Hot chocolate and warming red wines were the order of the evening and went perfectly with our stitching.

Stitch and Help us teach the Girl Guides

We at S&B London like to give something back to the community and what better way than helping the next generation of stitchers get their Girl Guide knitting badges? We will be teaching the Stockwell Girl Guides how to cast on, knit and hopefully cast off at the Royal Festival Hall meeting on TUESDAY 18TH NOVEMBER.

Although the meeting will continue as usual we would love some helping hands to teach the little angels. You do not need to be experienced at teaching, just someone who is enthusiastic and willing to give up a small amount of their knitting time for a good cause. It would be fab if you could come along and help out the Stitchettes.

Stitch and Make Stuff

The Make Lounge are up to their crafty tricks again and have released a bundle of new and exciting courses to bring out your creative abilities.

In the spirit of the credit crunch you can learn to make tea cup candles, sew aprons, craft jewelry or even whip up your own pair of knickers for fabulous low cost presents this year. The class sizes are nice and small, materials are top notch and class times fit in with your busy schedule on evenings and weekends.

Our very own Purl Princess (Laura) will be teaching a Knitting Basics: Fingerless Gloves class and Knitted Mini Holiday Stockings classes. So come learn something new with like-minded creatives.

Stitch and Go Gadget Go!

Stitching may be seen by the ill-informed as an old fashioned art form but we all know that is it considered to be 'vogue', 'the new rock 'n' roll'* and simply fabulous. In fact, it is so very alive and well that people are creating useful knitting gadgets to help your knitty hands.

Amongst the previously mentioned Stitch Minder that you can download for your iPod Touch, there are a number of helpful gadgets to assist with your favourite hobby.

Have you ever found yourself sitting through a boring film in the cinema with a loved one, that you promised you'd go and see with them, yet all you really want to be doing is your knitting? Well, fear not. The Knit Light™ will give you the perfect light to see your stitches without distracting anyone around you. You can even sit in bed and knit to your heart's content without having to get up and switch the light on, thus not waking the person sharing your bed.

Nancy's Knit Knacks also share with us telescopic double pointed needle cases, for storing your DPNs, and WIP holders for holding and protecting your delicate DPNs whilst still connected to your work. Electronic row counters, pattern holders and needle and hook gauges are amongst just some of the useful gadgets you will find on this handy website.

And of course, don't forget one of the most popular gadgets amongst knitters, the yarn winder, which turns those skeins into neatly packed little yarn 'cakes'!

That's it for another newsletter. Don't forget to pop in on Lauren 'Deadly Knitshade' O'Farrell's fabulous Purl Interrupted travel blog and come join us at a meeting… come on, you know you want to!
