Buggy
Photoshoot
Saturday 2nd Sept. 2pm
Could my fellow Island golf buggy and light vehicle owners come
together this
Saturday around 2pm
for a group photo shoot below the SI Bushfire HQ? The reason is that
three of us from the SIRA committee are to meet on Monday with Ben
Taylor, Deputy General Manager of Northern Beaches Council and staff to
discuss among other things progress, if any, of discussions with RMS on
conditional licensing of buggies and their management according to the
Island Traffic Plan. The feeling is it’s an issue which we need to push
along.
The photo is my idea of giving a face to the diverse group who have
embraced a buggy as an environmentally friendly, mode of transport for
Seniors, the less mobile, mums with young children, and the pack-horses
and trolley pushers who have found these sturdy little vehicles ideally
suited for our roads of varying steepness and unstable surfaces.
Also they are a far more island-friendly vehicle than cars.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you who can make it, buggies
included.
Jane Rich, Natalie Phillips and other supporters
On a recent visit to the city my 10 year old daughter Lauren was
saddened by all the homeless people she saw. When we returned she
announced that she was going to do something to help them and decided
on a pop up café at Catherine park.
After a bit of researching she decided to donate the money to the
Exodus Foundation. The Exodus Foundation support by offering food
services, access to GP's, counselling and dentists services, providing
legal services and art, music and sport activity groups.
More information can be found at exodusfoundation.org.au.
Please come whether there is rain, hail or thunder as the hall is
booked!

Construction Update -
Church Point Upgrade
Our contractor, Ward Civil, is continuing with the construction of the
new roadway and car park at Church Point.
The new boardwalk and road realignment will be opened to the public on
Monday 4 September, 2017. It is important to note that a 40km/hr
road work speed limit will be in place until the Car Park and final
road works are completed early in 2018.
The new road alignment and temporary work zone set up for the next
stage of works will result in reduced access to the Cargo Wharf for
large trucks and no access for semi- trailers.
Users of the Cargo Wharf are also reminded of the following existing
load restrictions on the Cargo Wharf:
- Maximum Vehicle Load of 8 tonne axle load
- No vehicle access permitted to the east half of the
wharf
- Maximum Uniform Superimposed Load (Bulk Storage) of
0.5 tonnes per square metre
Further works in the area will continue from September to December 2017:
- Carpark foundations
- Service relocations for electricity and
telecommunications
We thank the local community for their patience and understanding
whilst we carry out these important and vitally needed improvements.
Should you have any queries about the work being carried out in the
area, please contact : Eva Havenstein on 9970 1343.

Father’s Day at the Co-Op Club! Let’s celebrate the most special day of
the year for all the fabulous Dad’s and the first gig for spring at the
Co-Op Club with this funky band. Rebecca plays kick ass bass and sings
just as good with husband Con Settineri on drums and James Vertley on
guitar. This trio will blow you away with great pop & soul music
from artists that you’re all familiar with, including Bob Marley,
Michael Jackson & Stevie Wonder to name a few.. book for this one!
Sun
Sept 10: Sly Dogs :
Dogs
are our house band and they always bring joy and a crowd of loyal
followers with them. It must be because they play soulful music with

classics from Janis Joplin to Helen Reddy to Lourde..
Sun
Sept 17: The Dark Horse :
The
Dark Horse featuring Mama Megs is a group who first became known to the
Pittwater community when they played in the Top Room two summers ago.
This creative bunch bring together some of Sydney's most innovative
music makers who combine brooding, soulful vocals with beats 'n’
breaks. Etienne Klevaone samples dusty old Jazz, Philli Soul, Latin and
early French soundtracks and mixes them with voice and organic
instruments.
Muma Megs' soulful voice rides the tracks with harmonies straight off
the soundtrack to a Spaghetti Western film, adding to the cinematic
experience that is The Dark Horse.
Sun
Sept 24 : The JMA Honours Ban :
The JMA Honours Band are a bunch of musicians from
the James Morrison Academy in Mt Gambier in SA handpicked by Morrison
himself. They are in their 4th year of study at the academy and they
feature Tom Panckridge trombone, Lachlan Karl Hamilton tenor saxophone,
Jake Barden alto saxophone, Harry Morrison double bass, William
Morrison guitar and Patrick Danao drums. They play original
compositions of standards and have been touring the USA earlier this
year where they worked together with students from The Julliard school,
University of North Texas and The Monk Institute. Now they’re on the
road in Australia and we’re very happy that they will be joining us at
the Co-Op Club this Spring.
