2 Corinthians 4:5a For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord ...

CHRIST JESUS THE LORD

When we were children we liked to play follow the leader. We didn't mind being second or third or even last in line when playing follow the leader. The older we get the more we want to be the lead dog, the alpha male, first in line. We want to call the shots.

As Christians, we recognize that Jesus is LORD. He is the Master. He is the Head of the Church. He is the One that the Church on earth takes its direction from. He is the Leader.

As members of Christ's church, we submit to His leadership and recognize that He is LORD. We take our directions from Him. When we as individuals and congregations make decisions, we pray that He guide us and we consult the Word for guidance.

While some may serve in the church in leadership roles, we do so remembering that Christ is LORD. There ought to be no politicking or jockeying for positions of authority and honor among us within the church. There ought to be no arguing about who is greatest or most important.

After all, Christ Jesus is Lord and we are His Servants, carrying out His directives and proclaiming His Word.
