Some RT4 customers have had issues with batteries appearing to drain very quickly after an automatic  Windows Update on their RT4. The instructions which follow have been provided by Carlson to mitigate this issue.

In addition, new firmware / BIOS (released 11 Nov 2022) is available for the RT4 details may be found here: https://junipersys.com/support/article/14711
As always, we recommend that you do NOT update the RT4 at the beginning of the day. Wait until you are done for the week and then perform updates. Updates on the RT4 can take considerable time, sometimes over 4 hours.

Be sure to fully backup all of your survey data prior to updating the RT4!

RT4 Battery Patch.

Please follow the instructions below to apply the newest system updates to an RT4 tablet that only lasts halfway through the day on a full charge or shows "Battery #1 not present" after applying previous system updates to apply the new system updates released on November 11th, 2022 and attempt to recover an unbalanced battery pack:

1. Click the link below to install the BIOS update version 1.48 dated November 11th, 2022 into the Carlson RT4 tablet using the Mesa3 instructions below and the file name "M3Updater_UEFI_148_EC_128 exe"

{This step takes about 10 minutes}  ***we have verified with Juniper Systems this install is safe to use with our Carlson branded RT4 tablet***:

https://junipersys.com/support/article/14711

2. Once BIOS is updated to version 1.48 = click the link below to update to OS 22292 dated November 11th, 2022 using the file name "MS3W-OS-patch-22292 exe" which has also been approved for our Carlson branded RT4 tablet:
  https://junipersys.com/support/article/14716

3. After the BIOS and OS patches are installed, the battery firmware will begin updating automatically and you will see the following message:
Warning! Keep the charger connected and the battery door closed

  Updating battery firmware
It usually takes about 8 minutes to update Battery #1 then it will take another 8 minutes to update the internal non-removable Battery #2

{This step takes about 16 minutes}

When Battery #1 has been updated, the message shown above will disappear.

Then the message will appear again to show the progress of updating Battery #2

4. After the battery updates are complete, go to the list of Windows Apps and tap on "Device Info" to verify the batteries have the new (7A) firmware and check if they show "NORMAL" for the status.

If it shows "reduced capacity, Unbalanced" they can plug it in overnight to charge it up then run the battery dead the next day and charge it up again to full with another overnight charge.

***Please Note: the RT4 tablet requires a 30watt AC wall charger to charge the battery that shows an Output 12volts and 2.5amps.  You will need to

confirm the exact Output voltage and verify if the AC Wall Charger shows the proper 2.5 amps
