Sandra S Taylor

Hello and Welcome-
So... here we are, just barely back from this Fall's Quilt Market and our very first Quilt Festival! Both shows were very successful and we have oh-so-much to tell you, but since we've been up to our necks in back-logged work since we returned, it will have to wait until next month, so stay tuned because we have all kinds of goodies to share with you!
But-in the meantime, let's get started!

If you have comments or suggestions about our Newsletter, please feel free to do so at info@studiokatdesigns.com

This divinely neutral Uptown Saddlebag created by    Daren Whitehorn oof Albuquerque, NM. This bag features two separate, full-length storage areas.

This dramatic Quattro features a flamboyant peacock on the front pouch. It was submitted by Shannon Maciejewski of Almont, MI. The back is just as pretty as the front and here's a closeup of the zippered main compartment area.

This Guardian was created by Lisa Mechem of Morgan, UT. Lisa advised that she used a Robert Kaufman print and this will be her work bag. I think these locking zippers are ideal for the concealed-carry area don’t you? Lisa says she got them at Zelikovitz.com

And here we have the 1st ever Cosmo Convertible entry in our contest. It was created by Cindy Long of McMurray, PA. She says she used charm packs of Moda’s Juggling Summer and Kona Black then used a Twister template to get this unique effect! It’s mesmerizing, isn’t it?  :)

This stunning Quattro was created by Ruth Abid of Roseville, CA. Ruth fashioned the exterior from a pink floral fat quarter and other complimentary fabrics. Don’t you LOVE the yellow zipper? and she also added a little interior pocket she she won’t lose her chapstick! :)

Sharyn Graham of Australia is the creative mind behind this Cirque Sac, the first of many Sharyn intends to make. The Cirque Sac is one of our retired patterns but you can find it here.

This heart-motif Quattro was created by Irene Taylor of Sydney, Australia. Here’s a closeup of the initialized, matching heart embellishment for her bag! Irene says she’s keeping this Quattro  but has plans to make others for friends this season!

This Bellagio Bag was created by Shannon Maciejewski of Almont, MI. She made it for this year’s “Push the Envelope” contest at the American Sewing Expo. She was given two spools of brown thread, one spool of green and a cranberry zipper and told to create her project.

I think it was very clever to add the little diagonal zipper pocket to the front flap and she created a plaid exterior by quilted the outside pieces. Good Luck Shannon!

And finally, Carol Laske created this bold & beautiful Quattro. Carol said that she used Texture Magic on the front pouch area to give it a unique look and added several additional pockets on the interior for convenience. I simply adore the color combination she chose and as you can see, the back is just as pretty as the front!

New Word of the Month- Chicken-thirty

Cat Picture of the Month-

Minneapolis (9/28/13)- It was past quitting time at a new textile factory here, but that was not the only reason the work floor looked so desolate. Under the high ceilings, the fluorescent lights still bright, there were just 15 or so industrial sewing machines in a sprawling space meant for triple that amount. The issue wasn’t poor demand for the curtains, pillows and other textiles being produced at the factory. Quite the opposite. The owner, the Airtex Design Group, had shifted an increasing amount of its production here from China because customers had been asking for more American-made goods. Monthly Trivia-
Today is Saturday, November 9th, the 313th day of 2013 and there's only 52 days remaining in this year. YIKES! Kinda scary, right?
And if you think you might be detecting a whiff of cake, you're probably right because I don't image Lou Ferrigno (aka the Incredible Hulk) who celebrate his birthday with anything other than an incredibly LARGE cake, do YOU? He shares his special day with someone who is if anything, the antithesis of the Incredible Hulk, television personality, Nick Lachey and folk singer/activist Mary Travers (R.I.P.) of Peter, Paul & Mary. And if today is also YOUR birthday, here's a great big "Happy Birthday to You" from StudioKat Designs! And if today is not your birthday, you can celebrate the day anyway by watching this video of a little known work of Peter, Paul & Mary, "The First Tiime Ever I Saw your Face", which contrary to popular belief was written by Ewan MacColl and was NOT the original work of Roberta Flack, (although I love her version as well).

Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember!
Sewing Forever, Housework Whenever!
