Dear Friends,
Happy New Year to you!!
Figured it was about time to say that! Is it too late?

Well January has already been quite a whammy. And this month, this day carries so much weight for the future of the country. I thought I would send a very brief email and a few sentiments for this very important moment.

But let me get this one teeny piece of business out of the way first...

A Brief Reflection on Inauguration Day

Last Friday my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania said goodbye to our beloved Mrs. Rogers - wife of Mister (Fred) Rogers. With her passing (which happened to be on Martin Luther King's Birthday) it felt to me like we are truly waving goodbye to an era while entering into a monumental shift.

In many ways it feels like the lives and missions of Fred Rogers and Dr. King were directly connected - tied together by the threads of faith, love, and hope: an unswerving faith in God that directly impacted how they saw the people they served, love consistently acted out even in the face of hate, and hope that things could and would always get better.

When i think about their legacies and the example they set before us, I can't help but ask myself "how did we get here and how do we get out?"

Working on the Mister Rogers' theme song back in 2019 was and still is the most fun I've ever had on a project. Just watching kids be kids while bringing new energy to a cherished 'national anthem' (of sorts) was priceless. The song was simple. The message was simple. I'm actually of the belief that the most important things in life are simple. But not easy. Simple truths will often require hard action. Dr. King and Mister Rogers knew this all too well.

How sad it is that we give up on people who are just like us.
– Fred Rogers

Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.
– Martin Luther King Jr.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction.
– Martin Luther King Jr.

How quickly we forget the simple truths...and then reinvent our problems over and over again...in new ways...with new people...every 4 years.

Kids deserve the ABSOLUTE best and maximum amounts of joy! That would be my party platform if I ever ran for President :) But for right now that is my dream for the future ahead! I expect to live in a world where the question "Won't You Be My Neighbor" will always be more important than "Are you Republican or Democrat?". I'm praying we remember that as things begin to unfold over these next few days, weeks, and months.

Thank you for reading :)
