1 Corinthians 2:9 No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.
HEADLINES
My wife and I employ completely different methods for reading the daily newspaper. She likes to look at everything in detail, even looking through old papers if she thinks she's missed something. I too look at the paper, but I'm more of a 'headliner.' I often read the headline, maybe the first sentence, and then move on to the next item. I figure I can usually guess what the article is about after that. For example, if a headline says, "Local Student Wins Spelling Bee," I don't usually read much further because I've learned the basic information. I can get through a paper pretty fast this way.
Yet there are times when it's not good just to read the headlines. Do you know people who 'read' their Bibles the way I 'read' a newspaper? I've known some like that. They think they know what's inside because they've read "Holy Bible" on the front cover, but they never actually look very closely at what God says. They think in their own heads that He 'must' say this or He 'must' say that. At times we too might think God says or means this or that when perhaps we haven't even looked to His word to see what His counsel actually is! The problem is we're not very good guessers when it comes to what God really says, especially when it comes to what He says about our salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. Information like that has to be revealed to us.
God reveals so many beautiful words to us beneath the 'headlines.' When we delve deeply into His revelation we find treasure after treasure. Each page points to Jesus Christ who died on the cross and rose again from death to free us from the punishment of hell! Each page reveals different facets of the wonderful jewel of our salvation: sins forgiven. Each page gives us what we need for daily living. All Scripture can give us new insight, new hope, and add new strength to our faith!
