Rural Fire Service Open Day & Get Ready Weekend

9am to 3pm on Sunday September 13

The Rural Fire Service Open Day & Get Ready Weekend is a key step in preparing the island and its residents for the upcoming fire season.

This year we are hosting a fire shed dinner on Saturday September 12 and we are opening the fire shed from 9am to 3pm on Sunday September 13.

There will be a number of important and fun activities during Open Day on September 13 including:
  • Live fire extinguisher and fire blanket demonstrations – find out what it is really like to use a fire extinguisher!
  • Smoke alarm demonstrations – see how they work and how much smoke is required for one to go off
  • Let the kids use a variety of fire hoses to see what it is like putting out a bushfire
  • Review our emergency evacuation map for all island properties and make sure we know exactly how to find you if you need emergency assistance
  • Prepare a bushfire survival plan for your family
If you have been thinking about joining the Brigade it will also be a great opportunity to talk to members of both the Community Fire Unit and the regular brigade.

The BBQ will be running from 10am so bring the family down and have morning tea, lunch or afternoon tea on us.
