NEWS FOR CAT LOVERS
===================================
I Can Has Cheezburger (From my "I Wish I Had Thought
of That" Department):
Just about anyone who has spent any time on the
Internet has seen these funny cat photos.
It all started out as a fun little blog three years ago,
run by two guys in Hawaii. It caught the attention of
a smart businessman, who bought them out. He now
has a huge Internet empire of 53 sites that provide a
variety of humor on many topics, all fed by pictures
submitted by the public.
Here's the whole story:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/14/technology/internet/14burger.html?_r=1&ref=cats
----------------------------
Myth or Fact? Cats with dark fur cause more allergies
than cats with light color coats.
So far, this has not yet been settled. One study says yes,
another says no... but one thing they both found is that
female cats produce less allergens than males.
They also found that cats are the most likely pet to cause
allergies. But all is not lost. It can be handled with medication,
or by minimal contact, and bathing the cat more often.

------------------------------
Apartment living can be a challenge for some cat owners,
and more so for their cats, if they ache to get outside.
In response to some cats' need to be outdoors more, a lot
of people are creating protected outdoor spaces, called "catios."
Heck, I live on a farm, and while some of these cats are outside
more than inside, some of them are disabled kitties and not allowed
out. For them, there are window and door cages. They're not
exactly catios, but they do provide some outside exposure without
going out.

Email Note: I have been having more and more trouble
with my email provider at catlover.com. It appears they have
been taken over by AOL, a company notorious for messing
things up. Therefore, I am changing my email contact in
this newsletter to Catsgalore4 @ hotmail.com. I've put
it at the bottom of this newsletter, too, and it will always
be there if you need to get hold of me.
If you forget and use the old address, don't worry. I won't
cancel it just yet. I just may not see your message right
away... but then, what else is new? It gets real busy around
here!

CAT FOOD NEWS
===================================
Got a Fat Cat that needs to lose weight?
Here's a relatively new company with a new feeding plan:
Nulo. Inc.
http://www.nulo.com
Their SimplyFit line of easy-to-digest foods is sold in a
weight management protocol, similar to popular human
weight loss systems using points. You can get free online
meal planners, weight and fitness trackers and scoring tests
at their website, along with counseling if you need it.
You can also call them at 1-888-400-6856.
------------------------
Well, finally... someone got a brain... or a heart. The Landfill
Diversions Program in Portland, Oregon struck a deal with
three local Walmarts there and they now provide discarded
meat to local rescues, shelters and pet owners who want to
feed raw.
The food is distributed through the Northwest Working Dogs
organization.
Everywhere else this food continues to be thrown away, to the
tune of billions of pounds of outdated meat annually. Such a
waste.
------------------------
The American Veterinary Medical Assoc. (AVMA) just posted
some FAQs on their website about the incident rate of
Salmonella contamination in dry pet food.

Here are two sites that provide the latest info on what's
being recalled:

(from the American Veterinary Medical Association -

TAKE ACTION TO HELP ANIMALS IN NEED
===================================
Say something...
http://fb.me/GKw3eqzy
This is an article by a vet about pets who are victims
of abandonment, cruelty and neglect.
It is thought provoking and heartbreaking... we all need to keep
annoying our local authorities to do something, who
typically do nothing because the laws are so vague.
