Native Plant Conservation Campaign News: Western Center for Native Plant Conservation and Restoration Science Formed
June 10, 2016
On June 8, The U.S Forest Service announced the formation of the Western Center for Native Plant Conservation and Restoration Science.
The Center is a collaborative effort of the Pacific Northwest, Pacific Southwest, and Rocky Mountain Research Stations. The mission of the Center is to provide land managers with science-based solutions for using native plants to restore western ecosystems.
The Center will help supply the increase in native plant research required to implement many current federal initiatives (e.g.,
White House pollinator strategy, interagency
National Seed Strategy, DOI Secretarial Order 3336, National Forest System planning rule). In addition, conserving rare, unique, and endemic plant species and communities remain a priority and will also be actively addressed through the Center.
The Center's signed Charter is attached.
