Ephesians 6:4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

BACK TO SCHOOL

So, another school year has begun. For some parents it is an end to the chaos of summer, time to breathe a sigh of relief because of a reduction in activities.

So, as we hand off our children to their teachers, whether they are attending the public school or one of our Christian day schools or high schools, let parents remember that they are not relieved of responsibility for the Christian instruction of their children.

The same God who gave you children also lays upon parents the responsibility of Christian education. While God has given fathers the lead role in this blessed endeavor, that does not mean that mothers and grandparents are relieved of a measure of responsibility. If fathers fall short, mothers and grandparents should be ready to step up (cf. 2 Timothy 1:5).

Parents together bear the responsibility to see to it that their children are raised in the training and admonition of the LORD. This training includes teaching both Law and Gospel. The Law serves to reveal sin, while the Gospel shows young and old God's solution for sin and death -- His own Son, Jesus Christ. It's a daunting task, but fear not, the LORD is with you! He has promised to bless His Word. He has also provided pastors and teachers to help parents in this important task.
