Next week is Round 2 of the 2024-25 Print Competition season, which is being judged by Leigh Preston FRPS. The mug shot on the left was supplied by Leigh, but I can assure those of you who don't know him, that he's nowhere near as grumpy as this snap would indicate - he's a pussy cat really!

Leigh holds two RPS Fellowships, one for pictorial images taken of the mill towns in Lancashire and Yorkshire and the other for Darkroom printing. He belongs to the ARENA group of photographers and is a member of The London Salon.

If you want to read more about Leigh, or see some of his pictures, why not visit his website - www.leighpreston.co.uk

Christmas Social
Advanced Warning: Wednesday, 18 December, is the highlight of the Bristol social calendar - the annual BPS Christmas Social. The Membership Secretary has asked me to publish the following words:

It's that time of year again, when the great and the good convene for chat, food and (probably) a drink or two. No doubt all the 'old hands' will be there, but, if previous years are anything to go by, very few of the newer members will join us.

It does give people a chance to chat for more than the few minutes during the Wednesday coffee breaks, or at the end of a meeting, when the designated 'locker-up' is pointedly looking at the clock. It's also quite good if you want to pick someone's brains or just have a good old gossip.

Why not come along? You may enjoy it and all it will cost you is a single plate of food or the equivalent in nibbles, biscuits etc or drink. Everything is shared, so there's no need to bring a turkey and all the trimmings or a case of champagne.

I promise not to make everyone wear their badges, so do come along if you can.

Carol
Membership Secretary

DI Group
A quick reminder that the next Digital Imaging Group Meeting will be on Monday December 9 at 7.30pm. Please refer to last week’s newsletter for full details.

Meetings are informal and take place at the clubhouse and via zoom.

There is still time to send in your images in advance. Please send them to dig@bristolphoto.org.uk by 5.00pm on Friday 6 December. Please number your images in the order you would like them to be viewed and resize to the usual competition size, not essential but helps to keep the files to a manageable size.

If you prefer, you can bring them on the night on a memory stick and we can view them if time permits. If you are bringing images on a memory stick, please ensure they are in .jpeg format and not RAW.

Just a reminder that Ashwin’s DI challenge is available to download on the following link

If you can please ensure that he receives your images by Saturday 7 December. We will be opening the DIG evening by reviewing the results and sharing techniques, hints and tips used to edit them. Please send images to dig@bristolphoto.org.uk

I look forward to seeing you all. As it’s Christmas there will be the added bonus of mince pies to look forward to for anyone attending in person!

Rachel Domleo.
