John 9:6-7 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.
LOOK AT YOUR SAVIOR'S HANDS -- HANDS THAT HEAL!
My sister-in-law recently had Lasik eye surgery. It's fascinating to hear her description of the surgical process and how it all feels. It's exciting to listen to her description of her blurry eyes becoming clearer and clearer as she slowly recovered and healed. My wife and I have been so happy for her in her joy of her restored and corrected eyesight!
The healing of the blind man in the account from John 9 is a favorite miracle for many. The followers of Jesus ask, "What sin did this blind man or his parents do so that he was born blind?" Jesus responded that this blindness rather was to reveal and further demonstration the works and power of God in him. Jesus allowed this man to be born blind, so that our Savior's hands would once again display His hands are hands that heal!
But notice something else, in this particular miracle you can see Jesus test the blind man's faith. Had the man not trusted Jesus or had faith in His words to go wash in the Pool of Siloam, he'd have remained blind.
Isn't it so amazing to see what the Lord's advancements in medicine and technology can bring to us these days? That's the proper way to word that rhetorical question. It is the Lord's hand still today that brings heath and healing to our bodies. But even more than that, it's just about unbelievable that the same healing hand of Jesus restores spiritual sight to our once blind souls through the eyes of faith in Him who is our Savior, just as He did both for the blind man!
You too have been anointed and washed by Christ! In Baptism, you too have been washed where He sent you, in the bottomless pool of His forgiveness! Your eyes of faith, once blind, now see His hands that heal!
