   New Visions for the Nursery
                                    by Darrel Mayers
(part one of a two part article)

We're so lucky to have David Sargert LEED AP (left) join us on the
Thyme team. This accomplished architect who has created magnificent
5-star resorts in New Mexico, as well as Dos Brisas here in Texas,
dropped by the nursery one morning last October, while out for a walk
in his new Manchaca neighborhood.

After meeting Diane and Chris, and being impressed by the informal
magic of the place, he casually asked if they needed help... 'and I've
been having a blast ever since. There's plants, people, trains, sun-
shine... and exercise. I'm loving it, and learn about 11 things a day!'
enthuses David.

To understand this Floridian's architectural style, visit the website for
El Monte Sagrado, David's homage to our world's deities. It's in Taos,
New Mexico. Adobe buildings echo the beauty of the surrounding
hills, weaving together sacred geometries and organic patterns to
create enchanted spaces and structures. Closer to home, in the Hill
Country David transformed an aging ranch into the Inn at Dos Brisas,
a luxury resort. (For more examples visit David's partial portfolio.)

For David, having an inspiring masterplan is key to any project or
business... or even garden, and over the past three months, working
with Diane and Chris, he's been cooking up a brilliant new master-
plan for the nursery.

'Wherever anyone spends more than 5 seconds, I want it to be
memorable,' says David.

Apart from this, David also brings with him his skills as a photogra-
pher, and most recently as a social media promoter.

Our Facebook page has been transformed by his daily postings about
the comings and goings at the nursery - which include plant news,
but also when Diane's brother Jeffrey Barnes dropped by to serenade
the plants and people with a variety of wind instruments, that was also
posted.  Next week: The nursery's 2015 master-plan is revealed.

     My Top Tomatoes for 2015
                              by Chris Winslow

Tomato season for 2015 is just around the corner and I'm always on
the look-out for some exciting new varieties for our central Texas
gardens.

This year we're proud to present a cherry tomato hybrid that's exclus-
ive to our Austin nursery. Cherokee Ranch is a new cross between a
wild grape tomato collected in Ecuador, and a tasty heirloom called
Cherokee Purple.

Kevin Callaway, a tomato specialist from Hondo (near San Antonio)
created this hybrid, and we're expecting to enjoy the wonderful color
and flavor of the Cherokee Purple, but in a cherry size. (Kevin will
be speaking at the nursery at 2 p.m. on Feb 15.)

In other big news, there's the 2015 Rodeo tomato. Each year with
great fanfare this new tomato variety is released at the San Antonio
Stock Show and Rodeo, with all funds from sales going into the
coffers of the Junior Master Gardener program.

The 2015 Rodeo tomato is called Bobcat. From past years, the Rodeo
selections have proved to be some of the best tomatoes. Some of my
favorites include BHN 602, BHN 444, Tycoon, Tigress, and Valley Cat.

We plan on planting all of these along with Celebrity, a favorite hybrid
performer since 1975.

Now is the time to get those beds ready to plant. The most successful
tomato growers try to get their tomatoes in the ground early so that
fruit set can happen before those dog days of summer.
Happy gardening everyone!
