John 6:30-33 (NKJV) Therefore they said to Him, "What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

MORE THAN A LIMITED LIBERATOR

They want Jesus to prove He was sent from God. Never mind that He was constantly doing that. When wasn't He miraculously healing people? Or fulfilling prophesies? Or teaching the Bible in a way that showed He was more than a prophet?

The people didn't need more proof, they just wanted bread. And maybe something more.

It's well known that the Jews hated the Romans who were ruling over their land. They would have loved a miracle king who could provide unending food AND rescue them from Rome. Perhaps in Jesus they saw the possibility of a "second Moses."

But God's plan was greater than that. Jesus would liberate the WORLD from the condemnation of sin, not just put the Jews back in charge of a parcel of land.

The crowd was making Jesus too small. And how often do you and I do the same? How often do we underestimate His love? Or his ability to bend the evils that come into our lives into things that benefit?

Left to ourselves, we paint an awfully limited picture of Jesus in our hearts. And that's why we need to let Him do the painting.

" ... the Bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world" (John 6:32).

That's how big our Savior is. That's the real Jesus. The Bread of God. The One who comes down from heaven and GIVES LIFE TO THE WORLD.
