#HandsOffHaiti Film Screening
The Forgotten Occupation (2023)
and a Discussion with writer-director
Alaina Martin
Come and join the Pittsburgh Black Socialist Study Group for a screening of The Forgotten Occupation as we heighten our attention on the current crisis in Haiti brought on by the imperialist intervention of the U.S. and other Western nations. Fortunately for us, the film will be followed by a Q&A with writer-director, Alain Martin!
The Forgotten Occupation (2023) takes a look at the 1915 U.S. Occupation of Haiti and the violent & exploitative reality it created for Haitians.
"100 years after the Haitian Revolution, the people of Haiti find themselves once again having to defend their liberty, this time against a powerful neighbor: the United States."
Date: Thursday, May 23rd
Time: 6:30pm (film at 6:45pm; Q&A at 8:30pm)
Place: Center for Family Excellence
409 Dinwiddie St., Pittsburgh, PA 15219
We are hosting this event in response to a call from the Black Alliance for Peace (BAP, @blackallianceforpeace) to have a Day of Action in support of Haitian resistance to imperialism. We recommend you look into their #HandsOffHaiti campaign to learn more about what's really going on in Haiti (behind the headlines) and how Haitians are resisting. This film should also help us to deepen our understanding of what U.S. intervention often means for any people that is engaged in a struggle for liberation and self-determination.
