For the past eight years, Dance Parade New York has become the world's largest event to celebrate the diversity of dance.  We are well into production for our 9th Annual Dance Parade and are gathering over 10,000 dancers to celebrate more than 75 styles of dance and culture.

Get Ready!  On May 16th 2015, Dance Parade will boogie down Broadway in the heart of Manhattan, sashay through Union Square and leap across Saint Marks Place.  Never seen before dance genres and choreography that highlight the human experience -- 75 styles, everything from Ballet to Breakdance, Two-step to Dub-Step and African to Zydeco--all in dazzling outfits, with live bands, djs and decorated floats.

Dance Parade is for EVERYONE!
The parade culminates in Tompkins Square Park where DanceFest kicks off unforgettable performances on four stages--with dance lessons, roaming performers, experience dance booths and an epic dance party--all FREE to the public.

Engaging the Community
Since 2008 our Community Engagement Programs bring dance to underserved schools, recreation and senior centers throughout New York City's five boroughs.

This is our chance to show our gratitude and hire teaching artists and performing art groups from our Parade roster.  We are beginning our season December 1st by presenting dance at New York's largest holiday event: Winter's Eve at Lincoln Square!

Our FREE Community Engagement programs allow students to enjoy Family Fitness Winter workshops, six week Cultural Residencies and "Ageless Action," a program specifically designed to keep seniors moving!

If your school, community or senior center is interested in one of our popular education programs, click here for our Community Engagement brochure.

Genre Buzz - Brazilian Samba!
Samba is a lively, rhythmical dance of Brazillian origin in 4/4 time danced under the Samba music. However, there are three steps to every bar, making the Samba feel like a 4/4 timed dance. Its origins include the Maxixe.

The Samba music rhythm has been danced in Brazil since its inception in the late 19th century. There is actually a set of dances, rather than a single dance, that define the Samba dancing scene in Brazil; thus, no one dance can be claimed with certainty as the "original" Samba style.
Another major stream of the Samba dance besides the Brazilian Samba dancing styles is Ballroom Samba which differs significantly. This style is done with a partner in closed hold or open positions including but not limited to hand to hand hold, or side by side positions.  (Read more...)
