9/11/18
Thank you to the First Responders who were able to join us for lunch today.

Below is the message I read to the students this morning:
Today, 17 years ago, 2977 people were killed by 19 terrorists. My generation all remembers where they were when the 9/11 attacks happened. It was our generational moment. From that day on, I vowed, as did those in my generation to never forget the victims.
Many of us learned about special devices on first responders gear called “locator beacons”. Those devices sound a haunting alarm when a first responder doesn’t move for a period of time. All of us who lived through the attacks can instantly remember the eerie sounds those beacons made in the after hours of the attacks. Many of us asked, “what are those sounds? Where are those alarms coming from?” Only to learn they were coming from First Responders who had lost their lives. Perhaps the most heinous part of the attack was that the killing of first responders was planned by the attackers.
Today, we remember those who lost their lives, we remember those who ran in when everybody was running out and we remember the families who sacrificed so much.
First responders will join us today for lunch. Please take a moment to say thank you to them for their service.
