Luke 7:14 "Young man, I say to you, get up!"
THE BEST VACCINE
Have you gotten the swine flu shot yet? If so, some would say that by that act you just may have saved your life. But, while getting vaccinated might keep you from getting the flu, man-made medicines and health treatments don't really saves lives. They merely postpone death. Eventually we all get sick and die. There is no man-made vaccine that can prevent that. We are all sinners, and the wages of sin is death!
Today's Bible verses tells of a young man being carried in a coffin to be buried. Suddenly the funeral procession is stopped. Since when did death ever stop for anything? It must stop for Jesus. Jesus speaks. "Young man, I say to you, get up!" The result? The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
It turns out there is a vaccine for death. But how does it work? Just like it did with the young man. Jesus raised the young man to life by the power of His Word. Jesus speaks and brings life where there once was death. By the power of His Word He brings dead souls to life, giving them faith in Him as their Savior from sin. When the believer dies his soul is taken to heaven. Then, by the power of His Word, Jesus will raise and glorify the bodies of His believers on the last day. Body and soul, they will have life in heaven with Him forever!
If death comes knocking on your door in the coming year, dear Christian, fear not. For you death is now merely a door that leads to life without end. You've been cured of death through your God-given faith in the Risen Jesus! Jesus is a vaccine you just can't live without!
