Dear friends,
When people ask about visiting The Farm Community, I always suggest coming when there is an activity taking place. Otherwise, the place is very quiet. We are all off living our own, private lives, and the population is very spread out over several miles. This makes The Farm Market Day one of the best, and most frequent times when you can find a large segment of our population gathered in one place.
Market Day has really blossomed over the last several years into sort of mini-festival. There’s live music, food on sale, and lots of booths with interesting things.
It’s really perfect for us as a festival that starts around 10 in the morning and is over by 2 in the afternoon. We can go at a time that’s convenient, spend a couple of hours seeing friends and family, and then going on about our day. For us, there’s no travel, and for you it’s a chance to get a taste of what life is like here.
Every month, every week, there are many different types of activities taking place, giving us a very active social life. Those who desire human interaction can get as much of it as they want, while those who prefer a more introverted life can avoid the crowd.
If you live nearby, you should know that there’s a table where you can sign up for future notifications for things like the Market Day as well the other activities we have that are open to the public but don’t make it into this newsletter.
For this month's segment on Farm history and more, check out the interview I did with a local radio station. The host and I have known each other for over 30 years, so he kind of jumps around from subject to subject. Still, if you are familiar with our story, you’ll probably hear some stories for a second time, but, I’m confident will hear some new things as well.
Thanks to everyone for your interest and your support!
Peace, Douglas
Market Day - A great time to visit! Market Days are on the Second Saturday of the month, April - October. They are held in the center of "town," next to The Farm Store and the Meeting Hall Dome.
Venders are selected to provide a diversity of products and offerings from our residents and neighbors. Every Market Day features live music!
Market Day is the perfect opportunity to meet some of our residents and members. This is Rose, who moved here from Nashville a little over 10 years ago, after getting to know us through various peace and justice events. She makes pottery and also has a variety of other items for sale.
Pickles is one of our newer residents, coming to live with us in 2019. She sells... you guessed it, a wide variety of homemade pickles! In addition to cukes, you'll find pickled carrots, and pickled okra, a specialty of the South.
Jimbe drums.

In the early 90s, I started a video production company and contacted the local cable company to see if they needed someone to produce their TV commercials. Jeff Hood and I worked together for over 10 years and have a friendship that will last a lifetime. Jeff is a beloved member Lawrence County and the surrounding area, and his morning radio show is listened to by a wide audience. He has a segment called Friends and Neighbors, and I was honored to have this opportunity to share a bit about The Farm and my life. Click here to watch it on YouTube.
