1 Peter 2:25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

AND HE SHALL BE CALLED "SHEPHERD AND OVERSEER OF SOULS"

Jesus once said: "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand (John 10:27-28). He also said: "Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers" (John 10:5).

Do you know what Jesus sounds like? Can you recognize His voice? I bet you can.

"It doesn't matter if you sin, everyone goes to heaven." Does that sound like Jesus?

"The way to heaven is to be really nice to other people." Does that sound like Jesus?

"I died to pay for your sins. I love you that much. Trust in Me." Does that sound like Jesus?

We may not know if Jesus had a deep voice, or a high voice, but we know that only the last statement is our Savior's voice. We know what is His voice sounds like, don't we? We know because we've heard that voice in the Bible. We've heard the story from beginning to end, and over and over, how Jesus died to rescue us from hell.

But we're not in heaven yet, are we? Thankfully, the Bible says that Jesus is the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls. That means that Jesus takes watches over us and leads us like a Shepherd takes watches over and his sheep and leads them where they need to go.

We can't see Jesus, so we have to listen for His voice to guide. We can't hear Jesus' voice if we don't hear what the Bible says. But if we trust in Jesus and listen to His voice, it leads us all the way home to heaven.

That's why Jesus is called the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls.
