Revelation 22:13, 20 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last." He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
OUR HOPE IS IN THE FIRST AND THE LAST
For many in our world, the thought of the Last Judgment is a joke. Some confidently assert that there is no God and therefore they have nothing to fear. Others have convinced themselves that difficult times in life are "hell on earth." Still others just don't care and like the rich fool, "eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die."
The Spirit of God has opened our eyes to the truth. We understand that we have a corrupt sinful nature. We have sinned in thought, word, and action. We have been led to confess our sins and to trust in the perfect life and all sufficient death of His Son. We understand that one day these bodies will stop working and our souls will go to be with the LORD.
Death is nothing to fear for those who trust in the First and the Last. Jesus our Redeemer is the eternal Son, who granted us physical and spiritual life and has promised us eternal life. Jesus was there to hear our "borning cry" and will be there when we breathe our last. He is Himself eternal and so are His promises to us.
Death has been neutered; it's sting and power forever removed by Christ's death for us. Our hope in life and in the face of death is the First and the Last.
