OK...I'll admit I was hooked on this season's THE BACHELOR with none other than the determined-to-find-a-wife, Jake Pavelka. I am intrigued by how Hollywood edits reality TV, seeing that I have been on Blind Date, Change of Heart, Love Connection, Fifth Wheel, etc. I remember well how things get chopped or twisted during the post-production period. |

With that said, I was one of the few (very few) who was happy that Vienna won Jake's heart. Not because she was the "under dog," but because she was REAL. Minutes after Jake popped the ?, Facebook was flooded with nasty comments about Vienna and the rotten choice Jake made. Chances are they will be together forever since they are America's least favorite couple :)
I honestly believe that the people making horrible comments on the net are behaving FAR WORSE than Vienna's bluntness during this show's season. The media bashing Vienna regarding stupid things she did in high school isn't a surprise but unnecessary. My hope is that people be reminded that we all have a "past" and that Jake's decision is just that - Jake's decision.

MTV'S NEW TRASH
"The Hard Times of RJ Berger"
MTV is at it again. (no surprise) Teens are the target with a so-called "comedy" about a high-school geek who becomes the hottest stud on campus when he shows off his large appendage to his friends and fellow classmates. This raunchy show premieres in June. I suggest go enjoy the weather outside and do a BBQ with friends instead.
MTV General Manager Stephen Friedman laughs at what concerned parents are saying. He boasts recently in the Los Angeles Times "RJ Berger really captures what our audience wants...and speaks to where we need to go as a network."
WHAT?
IN FACT - MTV LOST 9% OF IT'S ADULT PRIMETIME AUDIENCE LAST YEAR ALONE! Maybe Mr. Friedman needs to do some research on WHY his network is losing so much interest. I think people are realizing there is more to life than what Mr. Friedman can deliver.
An online post from Sam regarding MTV's new "creative," "thought-provoking," "life-enhancing" TV show gives me hope in our next generation. "OK. I'm an 18 year old guy and this show seems absolutely stupid…a reality show about a teen with a big pen--? you gotta be kidding me."
I agree Sam. I'm finding that teens are wanting much more in life than to be fed from the gutters of society. It amazes me how many creators of TV shows and movies actually SHELTER their own children from the "entertainment" they produce.

With the previous article, I wanted to follow up with how to protect our children from the sex saturated media.
According to the Guttmacher Institute the number of teen pregnancies are on the rise - first time in a decade. I find it rather interesting that the more comprehensive sex education taking place in our schools today (condoms, birth control) the more teen pregnancies.
If we set a LOW STANDARD, our children will live up to just that - a low standard. It is up to us as parents to build a strong foundation within our children before they even take their first step.
