Hello, Firstname

Don't let the bugger beat you!
Well, this is nearly the end of our first week's incarceration and so far so good, still 98.6°F and not a cough in sight - even if I am beginning to go a little stir crazy!

It would be a shame if we let a little problem like a global pandemic get the better of us, so (with your help and input) I'm going to try and keep the newsletter going as a common link between us all. To this end, it would be really great if you could let me have articles of interest, or suggestions for things to do during the coming months.

Already, several members have proffered suggestions, namely Mike Martin and Ashwin Chauhan, but before I move onto those, I'd just like to remind you of the promise one of our recent speakers, Gary Nicholls, made, which was to send pdf instructions to cover the demonstrations he did at the end of his talk. So you'll find these attached to this newsletter.

Round 4 of the bi-monthly print competition has been cancelled and the overall winners for 2019-20 will be according to the results of rounds 1-3.

The prescribed topic for Advanced entrants, Patterns, will be held over until next season, so as not to disappoint those who have already been working on this.

For the time being we'll keep open the possibility of running the Annual print competition, for which entries are due on May 20th.

Suggestions from Members
These are some suggestions put forward by Ashwin, based on what would normally go on at DI meetings;
  1. Invite members to submit two to five images with a brief description of what, when, how and why they were taken. If there is enough response you could pick the most interesting or best image. Ashwin is happy to supply a ‘virtual’ chocolate biscuit as the prize.
  2. Have a caption competition, image supplied by a volunteer.

And these from Mike Martin - things to do whilst socially distancing or self-isolating
  1. Have a look at any/all of the photography magazine websites – I’m sure they will all have articles (if they haven’t already) suggesting projects you can do at home etc.
  2. Have a look at YouTube – find an image you like and discover the technique(s) used to create it. Time to brush up your Photoshop skills.
The Photography Show Extra

For anyone who had wanted to visit the Fotospeed stand at the Photography Show to listen to speakers, then I suggest that you signing up to their newsletter via their website. If you have a look at their YouTube channel you’ll also find video from some of their speakers including Charlie Waite and our own Mike Martin (acquired credibility by the company you keep, Mike assures us).

Trumpet Blower's Corner
Hopefully I haven't missed anyone from this list, but if I have, please let me know and I'll put it right next week.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

For Sale
If you have anything to sell, or you're looking for something to buy, just let me know and I'll include it here. Please bear in mind, we only advertise items for BPS members.

Studio Bookings
Would all members please note that before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
Log in details to the Members' Area are at the end of this newsletter.

Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk
The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter. If they are wrong, please visit the Members' Area of the BPS website where you can register any changes using the on-line form provided; this form can also be used for change of address, email etc.
