Hello Firstname

Wednesday 20 February

Robert's website can be found here.

Next Wednesday we are being treated to another view on astrophotography when Robert Harvey BA ARPS EFIAP will present his talk called Stumbling Around in the Dark, in which we will see how digital photography enables us to capture the beauty of the night sky in unprecedented detail. In this evening of landscape astrophotography, Robert will show how to use an ordinary digital single lens reflex camera to make stunning images of stars, planets, earth's moon and the Milky Way, as well as more elusive astronomical phenomena such as meteors and eclipses. In the second half, he recount travels in the arctic in search of the aurora borealis and on four continents to photograph total solar eclipses.

Bristol Salon 2019
This weekend, 15, 16 & 17 February we will be judging the 2019 Bristol Salon at the clubrooms. All members are welcome to come along to see what goes on at one of these events and to see what constitutes a succesful international image. Members are welcome to visit the judging to see some of the world's top images projected and whittled down to the best 25% or so that will make up the exhibition. If you would like to come along, could you please note the following daily times when we will be open to visitors: 10am - 12am, 2.30pm - 5pm (or later if we are still going). If you would like to see a particular section, these are being held on the following days:
  • Open - Friday & Saturday morning
  • Monochrome - Saturday afternoon & Sunday
  • Nature - Saturday
  • Photo Travel - Sunday
We look forward to seeing you there.

WCPF - DPIC 2019
Last weekend a number of us travelled south, all the way to Exeter to see the annual photo fest that is WCPF DPIC. This year there were 57 clubs fighting for the honour of being DPIC champions for 2019. At the end of a long day (1,026 images), it was all taken right down to the wire with two clubs tying for first place, BPS and Dorchester CC. In true major championship form, it was decided by the equivalent of a penalty shoot-out, with the final positions being dictated by the number of individual awards each club had been awarded. BPS had 2 HCs but Dorchester out pointed us with two Selectors Choices. So the final result was Dorchester in first place and BPS second. Both clubs will represent WCPF at the National PAGB Championship at Warwick in July.

Trumpet Blower's Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
