Psalm 119:89 Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.

TEXTING

According to one report, U.S. smartphone owners aged 18 to 24 send a phenomenal 2,022 texts per month on average -- 67 texts on a daily basis -- and receive another 1,831.

Is the current generation losing its ability to communicate and connect in a meaningful way? Are we controlling communication technology for our good, or is the technology controlling and shaping us? And will the English language forever be reduced to BFFs, BTWs, and LOLs?

When the Christian considers the incessant use of texting, what really saddens him is how very few ever bother to read any of God's text messages. It probably also depresses him to see how little he himself may read those wonderful texts which come from heaven through the pen of apostles and prophets.

God's Word stands firm and is eternal. What God has to say to us in the Bible is always just what we need. In these last days as technology becomes more and more society's god, let's take great care to listen to our Savior speak to us from His holy and perfect Word. Try the following texts on for size:

When you're lonely and feeling weak, God says: "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand" (Isaiah 41:10).

When your heart is burdened by shame and guilt, the Lord brings this comfort: "He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross" (Colossians 2:13b, 14).

When sickness or impending death start to make you feel hopeless, God's Word gives you this real and powerful hope: "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you" (1 Peter 1:3-4).

Dear God, help us love the texts you send us from Your Word, for You alone have the words of eternal life. Amen.
