Leviticus 25:10 Proclaim liberty throughout all the land and to all the inhabitants of it.
PROCLAIM LIBERTY
Sometime this week you likely saw an image of the Liberty Bell-- in a newspaper, on television or on the Internet. Perhaps you also know about the inscription on the bell, that it reads:
PROCLAIM LIBERTY THROUGHOUT ALL THE LAND, TO ALL THE INHABITANTS THEREOF.
But did you know that this is a quote from the Bible, from Leviticus 25:10 to be exact. This is worth knowing and remembering, because, while the liberty this verse speaks of in its original context was freedom from slavery to human taskmasters, the Old Testament "Festival of Liberty" was designed by God to point to a greater liberty.
This victory the LORD Himself won for us with His victory on the cross.
Freedom from sin's domination.
Freedom from the sentence of death eternal.
Freedom to live as God's own children through a living faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God from eternity,
Who stepped into time to set us free by living and dying in our place.
Do you celebrate the liberty that Christ gives us? Then do it with joy. And proclaim that liberty throughout all the land-- beginning with your own family, friends and neighbors.
Raise up, O Lord the Holy Ghost, From this broad land a mighty host;
Their heart's pledge, "We will seek the lost-- Where You, O Christ, will come."
