John 18:37 "For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth."
HE COMES IN TRUTH
Parents teach their children to tell the truth, and when a child seems to be a little less than forthright about a certain matter, you can often hear a parent saying in a suspecting tone, "Tell the truth, now."
A court of law will place those who testify under oath to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. In deciding the matter of a court case, the point is to find out the truth. Anything less than truthfulness in the courtroom will only confuse the matter and delay or endanger the deliverance of justice.
These are just two examples, but how often is the truth vitally important to our lives everyday? Of course, it is important for us to know the truth about many things, and none more so than our eternal situation.
It's quite sad, but so many people don't know the truth when it comes to the all-important matters of eternity. Some have taken hold of lies, thinking they can achieve eternal life and salvation through adherence to some false religion. Some will admit that they simply don't know what to think about these things. Some invent their own personal ideas about these things. But this doesn't have to be the case.
God who is the creator of all things knows the truth about all things. With regard to salvation and eternal life, the truth is found in Jesus. Jesus came into this world to establish the truth of salvation through His work on the cross, bringing forgiveness of sins for sinners everywhere. Jesus has come to bear witness to this great gospel truth found in the Word of God.
Through Jesus, through His Word, and through His disciples (that's us!), God wants everyone to know the truth about forgiveness of sin and eternal life. Jesus is the truth.
