Improvement of the position of greenhouse horticulture and Syrian refugees in Jordan
The conflicts in Syria and Iraq have got major consequences for their neighboring country Jordan. Not only has the country provided shelter for an extremely high number of refugees, but the export of fruits and vegetables has also decreased dramatically.
The main goal is to optimize the production with a decreased use off resources such as water, fertilizers and pesticides. Moreover, prospects for export have to be extended and employment opportunities for Syrian refugees have to be created. Through this project collaboration between Dutch and Jordan agricultural companies, including suppliers, is stimulated.

Vietnamese trainees eager to learn more about protected vegetable cultivation
With financial support from Nuffic, an organisation which supports the international cooperation of education, HollandDoor successfully provided a course about protected cultivation in Vietnam in October 2016 and March 2017. The 20 participants came from several different knowledge-, research- and educational institutions as well as a number of local businesses. The focus of the training was about gaining knowledge and skills with regard to cultivation on substrate, applicable technology and with special attention towards crop prevention and protection (among other things biological pest control). Moreover, a lot of attention was given towards active training methods for the experts to pass along to their local green growers.
Participants have experienced the training as being extremely beneficial. Due to the high satisfaction rate the Vietnamese involved with the training as well as HollandDoor are looking for possibilities to continue this cooperation through follow-up trainings. Read more...

Barbados’ agricultural ministry is being inspired by the Dutch horticulture
The Caribbean Isle Barbados has an estimated amount of 300.000 inhabitants and it is one of the most prosperous isles from Central- and South-America. Barbados’ agricultural sector, however, does not perform optimal, which is mainly due to a lack in cultivation(technical)- and management skills. Barbados’ Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management (MAFFW) is currently implementing a program in order to bring the necessity of a more efficient and sustainable food production to the people’s attention.
Two representatives from Barbados paid a visit of 4 days in April to the Dutch horticulture sector. Both gentlemen are involved in setting up a demonstration- and training farm of circa 10 ha. The visit served as an inspiration as well as a way to investigate the (im-)possibilities of collaboration.
HollandDoor has arranged the complete organization and realization of the study trip.
