-20 years sounds like a long time. But in reality, you just blink and wake up in another life. At least that's how it feels now when I look back on these recordings. 20 years ago…already? says David Fridlund, founder of David & the Citizens.

This year marks 20 years since David & the Citizens released their classic debut album "For All Happy Endings" a fact that we are now celebrating by releasing it for the first time on vinyl pressed on orange vinyl and fine inner sleeve with lyrics and original commentary.

"Gula Studion, Malmö September 2001. Shaky video recordings, warm summer evenings...the feeling that everything was possible. That's how it felt to me when we recorded "For All Happy Endings", and that's how I feel when I listen to it today; hopeful , dreamy, wistful and warm…”

When plans began to reissue David & the Citizen's debut album on vinyl, little did anyone know that the band would also be celebrating their 20th anniversary by performing together on the same stage for the first time in 15 years. This improbable fact took place at the Malmö Festival in August, and in retrospect one can conclude that it was a success like no other. Not only did 5 friends reconnect with each other, but also the roughly 4,000 people gathered at Gustav Adolfs Torg experienced an intense and emotional storm and live performance that left no one untouched.

Now we finally get to hear hits like "Now She Sleeps in a Box in the Good Soil of Denmark", "I've Been Floating Upstream Since We Parted" and "Pink Evening" in new vinyl-mastered versions.

David & the Citizens was formed in Malmö in the late 90s by David Fridlund, and during its heyday consisted of Conny Fridh, Magnus Bjerkert, Alexander Madsen and Mikael Carlsson. Former members Jenny Wilson and Karl-Jonas Winqvist had then left to focus on their band First Floor Power and before the last record Mikael and Alexander left and John Bjerkert joined on drums.

Music Sweden looked different in 2002, it was an era where relatively small indie, DIY bands, could tour around, not only throughout Sweden but also in Europe. They did everything themselves. There were a bunch of bands. David & the Citizens, Hell On Wheels, The Concretes, The Perishers, Isolation Years, First Floor Power and more, which kind of stuck together and formed a scene that was more nationally rooted rather than to any specific city. David & the Citizens was one of the foreground bands with their anxiety-inducing lyrics mixed with euphoric intense pop songs. In combination with diligent touring, during the 5 years they were active, they acquired a very loyal fan base, which continues to this day.

Thanks to everyone who was involved and responsible for making this album sound and look the way it does: Sara Culler, Jens Lindgård, Jesper Kumberg, Roger Nellsjö (then Ahl), John Bjerkert, Christer and Anders Narling, Joel Fridlund, Stefan Nordmark, Jörgen Dahlqvist, Border, Jocke Täck, Peter Andersson and others...

The songs are dedicated to Margareta Fridlund
