The August Wilson Center is holding auditions on Monday, March 28, 2011 to fill roles for its upcoming production of UPRISE: Raising Black Men written by August Wilson Center Fellow Dr. Tameka L. Cage-Conley and directed by Mark Clayton Southers our A/D Theater Initiatives.

The play will run May 5-7, 2011.

We are auditioning African American males ages 15 and up.

UPRISE: Raising Black Men

An enriching and enlightening community theater production thread together from stories told to us by and about African American men and boys. Hear them tell their own stories, much like last year's successful production of "Women of the Hill." The creative process is led by M.U.G.A.B.E.E. (Men Under Guidance Acting Before Early Extinction) two Mississippi based artists who have created community-based projects around nation since 1997.

We are auditioning African American males ages 15 and up.

  • Auditions will be from 6 to 10 pm on Monday, March 28 at The Center, 980 Liberty Avenue, Downtown Pittsburgh.
  • Actors should prepare one two-minute monologue. Individuals without prepared monologues are also encouraged to audition and will be permitted to read from their material or material provided by us.
  • Bring your bio and a current headshot or photograph.
  • Callbacks will be on Tuesday, March 29.
  • Rehearsals will be held during the month of April.
  • The play will run May 5 – 7.
  • Actors will receive pay for this production.
