Workshop Verticillium and verticillium-like fungi
Venue:
CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre, Utrecht, Uppsalalaan 8, The Netherlands.
Price: € 750,-

DescriptionVerticillium in the strict sense is a small genus (now 10 species) of important plant-pathogenic fungi, classified together with some similar genera in the Plectosphaerellaceae. Verticillium-like fungi, characterized by awl-shaped verticillate phialides and one-celled hyaline conidia, are quite diverse. Many genera are now distinguished, which comprise entomogenous or nematophagous species that become relevant in biological control. Some fungicolous species are pests in mushroom cultivation. Most of these fungi belong to the Hypocreales families Cordycipitaceae, Clavicipitaceae,  Ophiocordycipitaceae, and Hypocreaceae. In the workshop we shall discuss the morphological criteria and demonstrate representatives of these genera showing their morphological features that often allow a reliable identification in line with the most recent phylogenetic classification.

Introduction to molecular identification methods of food- and indoor fungi 2016
Venue: CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre, Utrecht, Uppsalalaan 8, The Netherlands.
Price: € 999,-

Two courses on different, but connected topics are given in this week: “Food and Indoor Mycology” (3 days) and “Introduction to novel identification methods of food- and indoor fungi” (2 days). This course in the identification and detection of food- and indoor fungi is unique in the world. It is packed with background information on several subjects, such as the recognition, detection, occurrence and impact of these fungi on food products and in human dwellings. After completion of both courses, you will also be up to date in detection and identification of food- and indoor fungi. We aim to teach a broad audience including people that work in food and indoor related companies, (routine) laboratories, academia and research institutes who would like to expand their knowledge on fungi occurring on food and in indoor environments.
The course “Food and Indoor Mycology” (10-12 October 2016) focusses on the classical detection and identification methods of food- and indoor fungi. A hands-on training will be taught in phenotype based identification of common food- and airborne contaminants. This 3-days course is supplemented with several in-depth lectures on specific topics:

Course Medical Mycology 2016
Venue: CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre, Utrecht, Uppsalalaan 8, The Netherlands.
Price: € 2000,-

The next edition of the CBS Course Medical Mycology will be organized in at the CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre in Utrecht, The Netherlands, 17 – 28 October, 2016. The course provides a didactic introduction into the Fungal Kingdom from the perspective of medical and veterinary mycology. The course demonstrates all major groups of opportunists and pathogens. Barcoding and novel single-name nomenclature will be explained. The dramatically changed taxonomy of dermatophytes and systemic pathogens will be demonstrated. New molecular and mass spectrometric identification methods will be shown, and hands-on learning of techniques will be offered. Invited speakers will elucidate pathology, virulence and therapy of fungal diseases. Lectures will be in English; personal guidance is possible in German, French, Spanish, Chinese and Dutch languages. The Atlas of Clinical Fungi will be used as lab manual. For this book the latest Online version will be included in the course fee.
