ONLINE ORDERS DELAYED BETWEEN CORNISH & NEW FOREST BEAD FAIRS

If we have bead fairs two weekends on the run, we work over 20-days non-stop, 8am to 6pm. Despite being retirement age, I’m far from retired. There’s lots to do during the week, apart from packing online orders. Show beads need to be labelled and restocked, then there’s the marketing, answering emails, organising future shows, writing newsletters, bookeeping……. Any excuse for a few days holiday in Cornwall!

SEPTEMBER BEAD FAIRS

Enjoy a bead fair in September. It’s great fun and you’ll learn a lot from the other visitors – inspiration and jewellery-making ideas. It’s also good to see the beads ‘in the flesh’. Their exact colour, texture and size. Like us, make a short holiday of it. It’s beautiful in Cornwall and the New Forest this time of year. Plus, Haydock Park is very close to Liverpool, Snowdonia and the North Wales Coast.

PINK POWER

Colour Has Power
Phenomenal success of the Barbie movie has brought pink into fashion. Colour creates an effect on people and has a meaning. When you design jewellery for profit, don’t let your personal likes influence what you make, choose colours that are popular.

The Strength Of Pink
Pink is calming, associated with love, kindness, and femininity. Some say when you need to feel kind to yourself, use pink. Pink is good to nurture relationships, and is associated with healthy flesh and new life. Making pink inspiring and creative to some.

Pink can be both feminine and vibrant. Bright pink makes people feel flirty, astute, and capable to accomplish the day’s toil. All pinks creates feeling of joy and happiness – ‘sugar and spice and all things nice’. Friendly and familiar with no worries, like being home.

Hot Pink
Hot pink is vivacious and joyous. Punks use hot pink for its aggressive and rebellious. It’s packed with energy, youthfulness, vibrant, electric, provocative and bold. Always making a statement.

Pink With Other Colours
Blue and violet make hot pink come to life – and it pairs well with black, yellows and cyans. On the tamer side, pink goes well with white .

Is Pink An Artificial Colour?
As pink is not in the visible light spectrum, some say that it doesn’t actually exist. This gives pink an ethereal and artificial feel desired in certain designs. However, pink is found in nature in the flesh and shells of crabs, lobsters and flowers.

“Pink isn’t just a colour. It’s an attitude too.” – Miley Cyrus

BEAD FAIR REPORTS

Berwick-Upon-Tweed Bead Fair
Click the online newsletter to see pictures of all these fairs. Amazingly, considering the out-of-the-way location, this is always quite busy, with visitors from as far away as Edinburgh.

Scottish Bead Fair
This was our busiest Glasgow show so far, with a full hall from start to finish. Poor Johanne from Southampton Bead Shop never had a second free, with her excellent beading workshops.

Harrogate Gem n Bead Fair
We all love Harrogate, but two-days is too long for the number of visitors. However, a great show and we’ll be back next February.

SEPTEMBER’S GEMSTONE

Sapphire is the birthstone for September, and is chemically and structurally the same as ruby, an aluminum oxide. However, where rubies are only red, sapphires come in every color but red: blue, golden yellow, reddish-orange, or violet. We have some sapphire beads at our bead show, but generally Sapphire is too expensive for most crafters, so a great alternative for September is blue chalcedony – which can look similar at a fraction of the cost. Chalcedony is a very fine-grained variety of quartz with a waxy luster with a compact fibrous structure.

ALTERNATE GEMSTONE FOR SEPTEMBER: CHALCEDONY

Natural chalcedony is usually grayish blue and sometimes with hints of pink, however it can be colour enhanced to light blue. It’s said chalcedony was used as a sacred stone by the Native Americas, promoting stability within the ceremonial activities of the tribe.Chalcedony is thought to balance emotions, and bring vitality, stamina, endurance, kindness, charity and friendliness. It also supposedly alleviates hostilities, irritability and melancholy.

BEADS UP NORTH

It’s only three-weeks to Beads Up North at Haydock Racecourse. We have many exhibitors trading beads, jewellery, lace & other crafts – in two halls, along with beading jewellery-making workshops & refreshments. A bumper show, not to be missed! Save money purchasing tickets online. Adult tickets at the door £5 or online just £3.50. Concession for children and OAPs.

This time the beading workshop is to make a beautiful ring with lime-coloured seed beads. The first workshop at 11am is only available to those who book first on the day. However, the 1pm workshop will soon be available to book online – keep an eye on the Beads Up North website.
