National Seed Strategy Implementation Begins.
Native Plant Societies can get involved!

Dear Native Plant Leader:

The National Seed Strategy encourages the use of locally adapted native plants for restoration and rehabilitation of wildland ecosystems.

The Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Parks Service, Tribes, Fish and Wildlife Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and other state and federal agencies are now beginning to plan the implementation of the Seed Strategy. These agencies are seeking organizations who can be partners in executing the Strategy.

If your Native Plant Society is interested in working with land management agencies to support implementation of the Seed Strategy (e.g. help identify species suitable for propagation and use in restoration of local ecosystems, identify areas in need of rehabilitation) e mail me at EmilyR@plantsocieties.org.

In other Seed Strategy news, the world is watching! The National Seed Strategy is a global first. No other country has yet developed a coherent strategy to develop sources of genetically appropriate locally adapted native plants for management and restoration of wildland ecosystems. So we want to make this Strategy a successful example that others can follow to conserve native plants and ecosystems.
