Next week, 4 August, we welcome Cate Barrow, who will be presenting her talk: UK Wildlife Images. Cate says of her talk:
I live in South Wales and work as a Director in an agri environmental company. I am a keen wildlife watcher and scuba diver. I have been photographing for approx 9 years and diving for nearly 17 years. I have been lucky enough to travel abroad several times a year to gain some of my images.

I live close to the Brecon Beacons National Park but now travel throughout the UK for photos.
I am a member of RSPB, Butterfly Conservation and WIldlife and Wetlands Trusts
I started 2020 with a great trip to northern Finland so do look at my recent images. I managed to get home just before the lockdowns started ! Sadly my trip to Komodo was postponed due to COVID19 but I did make it to Scotland in September. I have some great trips planned for 2021 including UK and abroad if possible.

We are constantly on the lookout for members to help with the day to day running of the Society. We are at present looking for someone who can help support/back up Matt de-Beger, who has single-handedly run the IT side of our systems for the last couple of years.
We are looking for someone who has a basic knowledge of Wordpress so that there is a backup for the BPS website in the unlikely event of Matt coming into contact with that proverbial omnibus. The lucky applicant would also be able to assist in running the Society's email system and what is hugely important, our weekly Zoom meetings.

Photography Show Back At NEC |
Photography & Video Show is back this year at the NEC in Birmingham between 18 and 21 September 2021.

Things haven't stood still at Unit 13 during lockdown and your BPS Council has approved the following works which will improve members' enjoyment on a Wednesday evening:
- We have had fibre broadband installed, this should allow the streaming of talks, demonstrations and much more.
- We are about to upgrade the existing camera and wall mounted monitors that are used to show prints when they are displayed on the front wall. This will improve the quality of images reproduced on the monitors, which will be considerably bigger than the existing ones.
- It is hoped that the existing CCTV camera will be able to be re-utilised as a camera to facilitate the broadcasting of meetings live over Zoom. It is hoped that when we return to Unit 13 for regular Wednesday meetings, we will be able to Zoom the meetings to those who are not confident enough to return to "mass meetings". This is something that we hope to be able to offer for a limited time after we return to Unit 13.
- We will be trying a new seating layout to try to get over the problem of the middle of the room becoming clogged up as members gather round the column to hold court.

Upcoming Competitions.
Kingswood Salver – 13 Nov 2021
OK, this is some way off, but following our fantastic win last year, we need to start thinking about how we can pull together a panel (five images from 5 different photographers) for this year.
Here are a few ideas to get you started: Characterful portraits (male or female), architecture, abstract, etc.
If anyone has any ideas of a theme please let Mike know... remember it has to be broad enough that others can provide complementary images. Feel free to send Mike any suggestions and/or a few thumbnails 
PAGB Inter-Club Print Competition
Like the PDI competition above, the print equivalent is due to be held at Smethwick PS in September (historically this has been held in Chorley, but has been relocated this year).
BPS will be representing the WCPF having won the WCPF Print battle in 2019 (there was no competition in 2020).
Selection has yet to be made, but please dust off your printers, etc, and stand by to offer up your best prints*.
We will require 15 images, no more than 3 per photographer, a minimum of 5 mono and 5 colour, but no more than 4 nature.
* if printing/mounting is problematic, Mike Martin is happy to print for individuals in the same way as we did for the GB Trophy competitions.*
Amateur Photographer of the Year
Come on guys, we should be able to win this (the Club entry - £500 for the winning club).
Currently following judging of 5 rounds BPS, solely on the back of Mike Martin’s individual performance, currently lies 4th! (Mike is equal 12th in the individual rankings). There are three rounds to go: Portraits, Travel and Street.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
