Mary will also be here for Checkerboard Galaxy. This class begins on Monday, May 18 and is a night class only, from 5:30 - 8:30.  The second and third classes are on July 1 and July 15. Here is a picture of the block and the border that will go with it. Stunning!!!

Checkerboard Galaxy

Bargello is on Saturday May 16 and Saturday, June 13. This is a really easy block and actually great for an Advanced Beginner. A great way to improve your skills.

Bargello

New Year's Star is a Deb Tucker pattern. If you know anything about Deb Tucker it's that her rulers are the best. Every piece will come out perfect. You will learn to use the V block ruler in this class and we will be using the Tucker Trimmer. I have this class scheduled for only one class, but after looking at it a little more, I think we are going to need at least 2 classes. I won't raise the price of the class, it will remain $40.00. The second class will be on Saturday, July 18. I have not had a chance to work on this quilt, so this will be a Holly sew along class.

Mary begins Yankee Doodle Dandy on May 30, a very attractive star pattern. This is a 3 part class, the other two classes are on Saturday, June 13 and 27.

Yankee Doodle Dandy

In June Mary is teaching Beginning Applique and Beginning Paper Piecing, two skills it is very handy to have. Mary will walk you through it, and you will wonder why you were apprehensive about either skill. Both of these classes will give you knowledge to expand your quilting opportunities.

Beginning Applique

Beginning Paper Piecing

In July I am beginning an 18 month long class.  Feathered Stars is a stunning quilt, all paper pieced. The only way I will ever make this quilt is if I can work on it in small doses. It was just too daunting to think about making the whole thing all at once. We are only going to make one block a month, on the 2nd Saturday of every month. If we have everything cut beforehand, I think we can get one block done in a day. If you are interested in taking this class and you don't know how to paper piece, I advise you take Mary's beginner paper piecing class first. This class will always be on the second Saturday of the month from 9 - 2:30.

Flock of Feathered Stars

On June 20, I am teaching the 5 minute block. This is a great block that can be finished 3 different ways to finish the block appearing different each time. Here are 3 items I made from this book and there are quite a few more patterns in the book.

Mary is teaching Tranquility on June 22 and July 6, morning or afternoon.

Quilter's Nest News, May 2015
Happy May Quilters,

Spring is here, the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, the sun is shining and it's not supposed to rain for a week. Life is good.

Mary continues to improve. She is actually coming in a couple of hours every week. It will be another month at least until she is back full time. Thank you for all of the prayers, cards, and concerns. I know she truly appreciates them.

The only new prayer concern that I know of is Barb and her family. Let's also keep the residents of Baltimore in our prayers. Let's pray that peace is restored soon.
Thank you to everyone who visited our shop for our birthday sale. The cards and all of the candy were great!! We all got a kick out of the cards!!

Our website has been revamped and updated, a huge thank you to Rosanna Clayton for all of her hard work and waiting patiently for me to get back with her. It loads faster and easier to navigate. Also our most current newsletter is there each month.

I hope you were able to make it to the Paducah quilt show. I got to go twice. I swore I wasn't going to spend any money the second time, well that didn't happen.  Steve went to a gun store while I was in Hancock's and he came in and found me when he got back. I had a cart full of bolts. His comment was "oh is that what not spending anything looks like?"  Of course I said "Sure". I know of 4 quilters that got really good deals on new machines and I am sure they are enjoying themselves playing with them. I'm green with envy.

We have gotten quite a bit of new fabric in lately.  Some of it is Halloween, and Christmas fabric will not be far behind.

Halloween Fabric

Our Halloween section seems to be growing.  This isn't a very good picture, because the one in the middle is a purple with black dots. Don't wait until the last minute to come in and check it out, it usually doesn't last real long. We also just got in 3 Fairy Frost’s today by Michael Miller.

We are changing Friday night sew ins a little. They will still be on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month from 5 - 9. From now on they will all be either brown bag or pot luck and $5.00/night. It's just one less thing I have to worry about. If you want to order something when you get here that's fine too. The next Friday night (the 15th) sew in will be a pot luck!! They are the best, trust me.

'Tis the Season Block of the Month is kicking off in June. All of the kits will be ready for all 12 months. We have 10 kits cut and I know 4 of them are already reserved. There is a $25.00 registration fee, which will be deducted at the end of the 12 months. If you reserve a kit, pay your registration fee, and then decide not to participate, the fee is non-refundable. The kits are $20.95/month. If you would like to purchase all 12 months at once, you will receive a 10% discount.  Be sure to call or email us right away so that you are sure to get your kit.

Believe it or not, we only have 5 spots left for Strip Night, which is on November 7 this year. This is the quilt, NOT the color choice. We will order fabric probably in August or September and let you know when it gets here so that you can come in and make your selection. There is a $25.00 registration fee for Strip Night when you sign up. Your spot is not reserved until you have paid your registration fee.  Give us a shout to let us know that you will be here!!!
