November has been a busy month for Unit 13.
At the beginning of the month Bristol Astronomical Society moved from their previous meeting place at Bristol Grammar School to Unit 13. Friday nights will now see us welcoming them to their new regular meeting place. This agreement will go some way towards ensuring that we get the maximum use out of the property, as up until now it has been a little like a football stadium - wonderful building & facilities, but used just once or twice a week and the rest of the time lying empty. The agreement will also please our Treasurer as it will mean some additional income to help offset the running costs of the clubrooms.
As you will know, Bristol is the 2015 Green Capital of Europe, well, BPS has now done its bit. Throughout this week men have been beavering away on the roof of the clubrooms installing a solar panel system, by the time you read this they will have installed panels to the entire area of the roof over the Meeting Room section of the building. This will mean that we will be a net producer of electricity with our contribution to the National Grid far out-stripping our use.
The beginning of the installation. |

Volunteer Project in Africa
|
I have received the following from Changing Worlds who are based in Hamilton House in Stokes Croft. It is self explanatory, so if you are interested please contact them directly.
Becoming a volunteer photography teacher is a fantastic way to spend a constructive trip overseas by broadening your horizons and helping to improve the future prospects of children from disadvantaged communities. You will have the chance to share your love of photography with enthusiastic children by teaching them the basics of using a camera such as composition and exposure, whilst also exploring your own photography in a new and exciting culture.
The project start dates for 2016 are the 13th of February and the 27th February. This will be the second year this project is running after such a huge success last year - we would be able to put you in touch with volunteers for last year for you to talk to about their experiences.
The project runs for 5 weeks at a cost of £1245. This project cost includes your accommodation at a shared volunteer house, three meals a day, airport transfers, transport to and from the project, full induction and orientation, 24 hour support and pre departure advice. This would leave you to budget for your flights, travel insurance and extra spending money.
Thank you Pendra

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue. |
If you have something photographic that you want to sell, let me have the details and I will circulate them to a captive audience of photographers through the Newsletter - send to the usual address.
|
If you have anything you think other members would like to know about, such as exhibitions, special events etc. please let me know at newsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk
