LAUNCH OF GENERAL ELECTION MANIFESTO FOR THE CHARITY SECTOR
 
WHAT: Launch of General Election Manifesto by The Wheel, the national association of charities, community and voluntary organisations, and social enterprises. With a membership of over 1,700 organisations, we are the largest representative body for a sector that generates a turnover of €14bn per year and employs 189,000 people.

WHY: Charities are primary service providers in the areas of HEALTH, HOMELESSNESS and RURAL DEVELOPMENT – all key election issues. For instance, in health, the voluntary the sector provides approximately one quarter of acute hospital services and approximately two thirds of services to people with disabilities. The Wheel’s General Election Manifesto,Stronger Communities Stronger Irelandaddresses the key challenges facing the charity, community and voluntary, and social enterprise sector and provides a blueprint for an Ireland which gives adequate supports to the valuable work being done in every constituency in Ireland.
 
WHO: The Wheel and representatives of some of Ireland’s top health charities will be on hand for interview.
