Matthew 5:13-14 "You are the salt of the earth . . . You are the light of the world."

YOU, YOU, AND ONLY YOU!

Taking the Good News of Christ to others is not an optional extra for us as Christians. It is absolutely vital. In a world where so many things are magnified into a crisis, this really is a matter of life and death.

Notice Jesus did not say, "You are some of the salt." Nor did he say, "You are a light." He said, literally, "You yourselves are the salt. You yourselves are the light of the whole world." The Lord has assigned this job to the Christian. There is no one else to be salt and light. If we Christians prove to be good for nothing, no one else will or can be the salt and light that this world so desperately needs.

But isn't this a task well beyond us? Isn't our influence limited to the few with whom we come into contact? NO! Because Christ is our light! He makes us and keeps us light and salt. The grace and mercy with which we reach out to others He first applies to out hearts.

So cling desperately to your Savior. In him all of our countless sins find forgiveness. In Him our imperfections and short-comings find complete fulfillment. In Him is the perfection we could never ourselves attain. In Him is the strength and dedication to serve and love our neighbor as ourselves, and to live as that which they truly need -- salt and light.

May the love of our Savior Jesus fill each of us with such love for our fellow man and such dedication to our Heavenly Father. Without our lights shining in the darkness, how will dying men ever find their Savior?
