2017 HSC
Success Workshop for Parents and
Students
Northern
Beaches Council is holding a workshop to help parents and students
prepare for the 2017 HSC at Mona Vale Library on 3 November.

Presenter and educational consultant, Jennifer Michalski, said students
often do not realise that the marks for the HSC begin now, in Term 4,
when the first assessment tasks are completed.
"The more information parents and students have, the better prepared
they are for the challenging HSC year.
"Parents and students are often confused by a multitude of opinions and
ideas and this workshop will give clarity and answer important
questions," said Ms Michalski.
The workshop will help families prepare by ensuring they understand the
cycle of the HSC year, how the final mark is calculated and the
pitfalls and things they need to watch out for.
"If it is at the beginning of the assessment program, in Term 4, or at
the end, all marks are equal.
"Students need to understand they should start early and overcome any
thought that it can be all done at the end.
"They need to work consistently throughout the four terms and continue
to live a balanced life while enjoying their final senior year of
schooling.
"For parents, remaining positive and doing what will assist their HSC
student to achieve their best is a challenge, and lines of
communication need to be open," Ms Michalski said.
Ms Michalski has managed and supported HSC students for more than 15
years, and has executive management and teaching experience across the
public and independent sectors.

Almost Summer Sessions - Music at Mona Vale
Summer
is almost here and so is Almost Summer Sessions, a band night by and
for young people on 4 November.
Almost Summer Sessions is an initiative of some of the area's emerging
young changemakers and Northern Beaches Council.
The line-up includes some of the best young bands on the Northern
Beaches - Black Iguana, After Hours, Down for Tomorrow and more with
musical styles as diverse as jazz, alternative, indie pop and punk rock.
"We were delighted when a group of passionate young people proposed a
local band night for young people that will not only be a great night
out but showcases our local talent," said Suzi Pawley, Council's Youth
and Families Coordinator.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to provide an all ages, alcohol and
drug free event for young people to enjoy music and a BBQ, catch up
with friends and meet new people outside the school environment.
"It's great to be able to work with these young people and help them
organise the event from the ground up.
"That includes everything from organisation and promotion to stage
management and front-of-house duties," said Ms Pawley.
Almost Summer Sessions is proudly supported by Mona Vale Music.

Seeking Accommodation
Hello,
I've been the live-in caretaker of a beautiful property in Lovett Bay
for 15 years.
The place was listed for sale on Monday and suddenly attracted multiple
offers above asking - surprising everyone and meaning I now need to
find another place by early December.
I'm seeking a similar scenario ideally - just a one or two room
self-contained space where I can spend a night or two writing each
week. Most of the time it will be me visiting alone to work - but
sometimes my partner and baby will also stay to lap up a little of the
peace only Pittwater people know. The other 5 days a week we'll almost
invariably be working in town, so it's a very low-impact rental.
I began my life here with 5 years in Elvina Bay, prior to my decade and
a half in Lovett, so I've an affinity with the Western Shores - however
any suggestions on the Island, McCarrs Creek or even as far north as
Coasters or Mackerel would be most welcome.
I have excellent references from my prior landlords and can be relied
upon to care for places in the absence of others, as well as afford
quiet and privacy to owners or other tenants when they are present.
Having to find a place relatively urgently at this time of the year is
a daunting prospect, so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you've
any suggestion.
Folks who might have a secure shed or spare room are also urged to make
contact as, in a worst-case scenario (if I can't find a suitable place
to stay within this brief window), I may be obliged to put my books,
records, chair and desk into storage. If that is necessary I'd rather
pay a fellow local resident than lug everything to the mainland only to
have to bring it back down the track.
Feel free to drop me a line on 0417663332 - or email jackofthis@gmail.com
Thanks very much,
Simon
