ENGLISH CAMP OGIJARES 2015

Deze brief is bestemd voor de mensen die het leuk zouden vinden om ons te helpen met het English Camp deze zomer. We hopen rond de 50 tieners te verwelkomen op het kamp dit jaar en zoeken daarvoor enthousiaste medewerkers. Heb je zin en tijd om ons mee te helpen deze tieners een gave week te geven en ons te helpen in het werk voor Gods koninkrijk? Dan ben je van harte welkom!

Would you like to participate this summer in a one-week English Camp in the South of Spain?

Are you between the age of 18 or 98 and young of heart?

Would you like to get to know the Andalusian culture inside out

while staying with a Spanish family for ten days?

Are you willing to help us share the grace of Christ by just being and doing?

Then we'd love you to be part of our English Camp in Ogíjares!

Let's first introduce ourselves. We are Maarten and Nelleke Slot, and since 2007 we live and work in Ogíjares, a village right next to the city of Granada in the South of Spain. It's our desire that people in our village will come to know Christ and learn to follow Him with their heart and soul.

As there is a lot of distrust towards religion and faith it is necessary to spent a lot of time investing in relationships. Before we can even talk about our faith there need to be built bridges of trust. Helping where we can, serving in love is one of the ways in which we can built that trust. As a result of the crisis we have an unemployment percentage of 50% among young people. For parents it has become paramount to have their children learn English to give them more possibilities for their future. That's where we come in. We organise an English Camp where children will be immersed in English motivating and helping them practice their English.

For the last five years English Camp has been for six to fifteen year olds. This year, we will only have secondary school kids, teenagers, for just one week. As it is a short time to make an impact in their lives and to maintain the relationships we have had with the majority of these teenagers for a number of years already, we want this week to count! To make this week a lasting impact in their lives we need you to help us!

By organising the English Camp we serve the village with a need they have. For us it is important that in doing so we can build on already existing relationships and get to know more people. By serving the children we can show God's love for them and their parents and hence build on the different relationships to share the gospel. The role you play as a monitor, looking after the different kids, sharing your life with a Spanish family, is very important. It's not your job to evangelise but to be a follower of Christ in who you are and what you do.

In other words: we ask you to be a letter of Christ!

To be part of the English Camp you need to pay for your own flight to the Malaga or Granada airport and your bus fare (when arriving in Malaga) to Granada. We will pick you up from or the airport or the busstation here in Granada. During your 9 days here you stay with a Spanish family who will look after you for free in return for your help with their English.

The English Camp will run from Monday the 29th of June till Fridaynight 3rd of July. However, for the introduction day we expect you to be in Ogijares the Friday before: the 26th, till Saturday the 4th of July.
