Exodus 4:10-12 Then Moses said to the LORD, "O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since you have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue." So the LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the LORD? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say."

EXCUSES AT THE BURNING BUSH

One common trait we see in all the heroes of the Bible is that they too were sinners in need of the redemption only Jesus could give! They had weaknesses just like us, but still the Lord worked through them even as He works through us to accomplish His will! Moses was no exception! When the Lord told him to go to the Egyptians, Moses was afraid and said, "Pardon Your servant, LORD. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since You have spoken to Your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue." Our Lord is teaching us a simple lesson but one that our sinful nature hates and rebels against.

We are to hear the Word of God, put it into practice, and not make excuses! To emphasize this fact to Moses the Lord said, "Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say." But Moses apparently wasn't convinced. He showed a lack of faith and said, "Pardon your servant, LORD. Please send someone else. I don't wanna go. Send someone else!"

Maybe Moses was afraid of the reception he would get back in Egypt. He didn't leave on the best of terms. But before we shake our heads at Moses and say he should've trusted God, let's consider how often the same thing happens to us? It's a fact that we face a hateful world. We may get concerned about what people will say, what they'll think of us? At times we may have Moses mindset when it comes to our personal mission ministry, but that calling is from our Redeemer and isn't something we can simply dismiss. It was given to us and all Christians by our Savior Himself!
