Skull Beads

Last chance to get your skulls for Halloween! MrBead Has very much skull beads. Skull jewellery is once again popular. Especially with the young and hip hop stars, who wear skull rings and hang skull pendants on their bags.

Why wear skulls?
To others, skulls remind that we all have to die. Skulls show that life is not permanent and are a symbol that we are all flirting with death. In this context they represent a quest to survive, a reminder to be careful. Rebels Some link skulls to rebellion, explaining why pirates fly the skull and cross bones. Outlaws to society want to show they live by their own values. Likewise, wearers’ of skulls believe they deter people from ‘messing with them’.

Gothic
Modern gothic culture has some similarities to Tibetan or Vajrayana Buddhist. Goths like to highlight suffering, so as to contrast from living and create an optimistic outlook.

Bead Fair Reports

See the online newsletter for pictures of the shows.

Norwich Bead Fair
Norwich was very busy to start, adn better than our summer show overall. We’ll be back at this popular show three times next year from early spring 2026.

London Luton Bead Fair
We had many buyers from North London – just 1/2-hour up the M1. However, over all, this show as quieter than usual – but we’ll be back in the spring.

Swindon Bead Fair
Great new hall at a great location. Swindon was busy with more visitors than Luton, but went quiet after 2:30pm. We’ll be back in 2026.

Citrine For November

Citrine is an alternative to topaz as the birthstone for November. Sunny and affordable, citrine brightens winter jewellery, blending especially well with the yellow gleam of gold. Yellow is a natural reviver, and citrine focuses the mind bringing a feeling of self-esteem.

In medication it strengthens the link between conscious and subconscious. If you’re feeling down, hold citrine to lift your spirit. It’s also good at healing the body and communication. Citrine promotes warm energy, optimism, and attracts abundance. Citrine removes negative energy, and in ancient times it was carried as a protection against snake venom and evil thoughts. Known as a “merchants’ stone”, placed in the cash register to acquire and keep wealth.

Citrine corresponds to signs of Gemini, Aries, Libra, and Leo. Although the darker orange colours of citrine, have generally been the most valued – today people prefer the bright lemony shades which mix better with pastel colours. Some call citrine topaz quartz – referring to the colour, which is similar to topaz. Since topaz is a separate mineral, this is incorrect.

Enjoy a Bead Fair Soon!

Bead shows are great fun. You’ll love them! Bring a trolley, as beads get heavy. Take some cash, as a few venues have a weak signal for card payments. Talk to the vendors and other visitors to inspire new design ideas. Make a note of what you paid for beads, and keep exhibitors’ business cards and leaflets.
