We're excited to share this "Idea of the Week", submitted by either the MAiZE staff or one of your fellow siteowners. There never seems to be a shortage of ideas and the truth is that some of the best originate with all of you! So, if you ever have an idea you'll like us to pass along to the group, please just send it our way. Also, please remember that we'll be archiving these ideas on the siteowner web site, so that you can go back and view them whenever you like.
Photo Albums at Your Fingertips
We all know how tough it is to find the time to take all the photos we want during our busy season. While some farms are overcoming this by hiring professional photographers and/or partnering with photographers as sponsors, online searches are a good option for those not yet doing that. Thanks to Jeff Greenwood of Summers Farm (Frederick, MD) for this great tip on an easy way to find great photos of your farm on the web. Go to:
http://picasa.google.com
  1. In the search field, put your "farm name" in  quotes.
  2. When thumbnails come up in the search, click the LINK  on the second line "By photographer name".  That will take you to the  photographer's Public Gallery and show you the number of albums they have  uploaded.
  3. Click on an album that may be related to your  farm.
  4. Click to select any photo that you like and look at the  size/resolution information in the right sidebar column.
  5. If the photo is high resolution, you  could use it for PRINT media or on the website.  You can click DOWNLOAD  at the top of the screen and save the photo to your computer.
  6.  You should  note the name of the photographer with batches of photos that you save -Since these have been made public on the Internet --  crediting them with the name of the photographer might get you a tentative  'ok' to use the photos on the web.  Still, it is best to try and contact the photographer for permission. Since there is no contact info listed on the web site, the best option seems to be "leaving feedback" with a request for them to contact you.

Last Chance to Enter the MAiZE Photo Contest
There's still time to win one free registration for the Wednesday session of the upcoming siteowner's conference in Branson! That’s a value of $185 and all MAiZE owners are eligible (even those who have already registered/paid will be reimbursed if you are the winner)!! If for some reason you can’t attend the conference, you can use the $185 as credit toward ordering MAiZE materials this year (i.e., passports, shirts, education materials, signs, etc.)

Many of you will remember that several years ago we held a photo contest and asked each of you to submit your best marketing-worthy photos that could be shared with your fellow MAiZE members. We then distributed them to everyone on a photo cd. We are bringing this photo contest back and asking each of you to do the very same thing...submit your best photos. All we ask is that:
  1. They are high enough quality and resolution to be used in marketing pieces
  2. They represent shots of people having a great time on your farm
  3. You are providing permission for the photos to be distributed to your fellow MAiZE members for their promotional use
All photos should be submitted by February 28 (the deadline has been extended from the original deadline of Feb. 10). Finalists will be voted on by the advisory board and the winner will be announced by March 10. Our hope is that this will generate lots of great images that will benefit everyone in our MAiZE family.
Not Too Late to Attend the Corn Party!
Though the Feb. 15 registration deadline has passed, we still have a bit of time to accept late registrations before turning in meal/bus counts. To accommodate schedules and budgets, the conference has been broken into 4 different days on the registration form so you can register for as many (or as few) days as you'd like. For more details and to print out a registration form, visit CornParty.com.
