Jewellery Colour for Winter to Spring Transition

Embrace the change. As winter fades and the signs of spring appear, there’s no better time to refresh your jewellery with handmade beaded creations that reflect the beauty of the changing seasons. Seasonal changes bring a shift in colour, mood, and energy. Winter’s cool, deep hues and cozy textures give way to spring’s soft pastels, fresh florals, and lively greens. Designing to reflect this transition allows you to celebrate nature’s renewal.

Why Gypsy Necklaces Are Perfect for Using Leftover Beads

Start spring with colour – brighten up your jewellery for the new season. The first day of spring is Thursday 20th March 2025. Creating jewellery leads to piles of unused or mismatched beads. Gypsy necklaces are a fun, eco-friendly way to use leftover beads. Their versatility, personalization, free-spirited and freedom in design, make fantastic projects for all jewellery crafters. And perfect for fun spring jewellery.

Celebrates Imperfection and Uniqueness
Gypsy necklaces embrace a bohemian style, valuing individuality and freedom. Unlike other jewellery that requires uniformity, gypsy necklaces thrive on diversity. Making it easy for you to combine odd beads, like glass, wood, metal, or gemstone – to create a harmonious, eclectic design. Since each necklace is unique, it allows a level of creativity that’s perfect for beads that don’t fit into other projects.

Eco-friendly Crafting
By reusing leftover beads, you reduce waste, which is beneficial both for your wallet and the environment. Beads that may otherwise sit unused or get discarded. Gypsy necklaces offer a low-impact, high-reward project that lets you recycle materials into beautiful, wearable art.

Flexibility and Freedom in Design
The gypsy necklace design is forgiving and flexible. It allows you to string together beads of different sizes, shapes, and colours in any order that feels right, without strict symmetry or pattern. Allowing you to experiment with layering, mixed textures, and colour gradation. You can create multi-strand pieces, add charms, or simply enjoy a single strand of varied beads.

Great for Beginner and Experienced Jewellers
Gypsy necklaces are simple enough for beginners, yet versatile for experienced jewellery makers looking to try new techniques. Stringing beads onto a wire or cord is straight forward – but you can elevate the design by incorporating wirework, adding tassels, or layering with multiple strings.

Personalized and Meaningful
Gypsy necklaces allow for personalization by mixing in beads with specific memories, like ones from an old bracelet, souvenirs, or charms with symbolic meaning. Using leftover beads in a gypsy necklace can turn it into a sentimental keepsake, telling a unique story.

Perfect for All Occasions
Gypsy necklaces are suitable for both casual and dressy occasions. A simple single-string design can complement a casual outfit – while a layered multi-string piece can add an elegant, eye-catching touch to evening wear. They also pair well with other jewellery.

Harrogate Bead Fair Report

Harrogate used to be our best Gem n Bead Fair, but these days most visit for stones and rocks, rather than beads. We took a little over half what we do at one of our own one-day fairs. Good job we never booked the summer show there. We’re replacing with our own show close by on Saturday 9th August. However, it’s always good to see the other exhibitors and take a few days off up-north after the show. This year we spent 3-nights at a cottage in Staithes, on the North Yorkshire coast.

Aquamarine – March’s Gemstone

Aquamarine is March’s stone – a blue-green gemstone from South America, meaning Water of the Sea. Aquamarine lifts spirit, and excellent for meditation, bringing peace and serenity. Use it for your spring jewellery designs.

Folklore says it protects sailors’ and is the treasure of mermaids. The gemstone is also supposed to have powers that reach to land too, helping married couples solve their problems and drive off evil. Aquamarine is associated with the thymus gland and is soothing worn as a necklace. Also thought to help coughs and calm the nerves. Aquamarine brings courage, aids quick intellectual response, and protecting the aura.

Colour ranges from a light turquoise blue to a bluish green. Darker blue is the best, greener less valuable. Check the clarity of the stone. Because aquamarine has a light pastel colour, it’s important to be free of flaws or inclusions. Examine the cut from different angles checking light reflects evenly off the surface of the gem. Aquamarine is usually heat treated and will become paler if left in the sun. Clean aquamarine in with warm soapy water and a soft bristle brush. As with all gemstones, protect from scratches and sharp blows.

Affordable Beads For March Jewellery – aquamarine substitute

March jewellery is traditionally made with aquamarine gemstones. Aquamarine is said to symbolize courage and hope, making it an ideal choice for jewellery to celebrate the month of March. However, aquamarine is relatively expensive, so if you’re on a budget, you may be looking for other stones and materials that can be substituted to make beautiful March jewellery.

One option is to use glass beads. These come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours, so you can easily find beads that are similar to aquamarine. Glass is also much cheaper. To see our many glass, click Glass Beads.

Another option is to use plastic beads. Plastic’s not all bad! Acrylic beads are also available in many sizes and colours that look similar to aquamarine. Plus, they’re extremely affordable, a great choice for budget-conscious jewellery makers. To see our acrylics, click Plastic Beads.

If you’re looking for a more natural alternative to aquamarine, try using other semi-precious stones to save money. Such as agate, amethyst, and quartz that match the colour of aquamarine, but cost less.Overall, aquamarine is great for March jewellery, but there’s plenty of other stones and materials that can be substituted. So, if you’re on a budget, you can still make stunning March jewellery without breaking the bank.
